I remember a comment Beercat made about the Golden State Warriors needing a white guy that can shoot in an off topic, Steph Curry thread. It was right before Butler came to the Shoe.

Not sure why he is hung up on it.

Because I'm a huge racist. I admitted it to BillyBearcat last week or so.

Flexin' the internet muscles!!

Not sure if you lurked around much before registering, but Cronin and his recruitment of different types of players has always been a hot button issue here and is a can of worms that doesn't need to be opened again.

don't get me wrong, i do believe you. but you are at the very least a giant bigot, but you have to have at least one black friend to not be a racist. white basketball players being good shooters isn't racist, it's stereotypical. a good comedy skit would be a pick up game and it's all black dudes and one white dude and the white dude gets picked first on the presumption that he can shoot. everyone hounds him and passes the ball to an open teammate for an easy score. he would never shoot the ball until the time he did. and he.......... made it of course because white people are awesome

He might be a great player but outside of UC that's not a good offer list

Projected as a low major and a two star. Is that where we are now has a program?

While I wholeheartedly agree that it sucks that we're going after people of that caliber and i wish we could see 4 and 5 star kids coming to campus, I feel that it is only customary to mention that the best player we have had at Cincinnati in the last decade was a borderline 2 star ranked in the lower 300's nationally when he came out of prep.

There are no teams, including KY and Duke, that have a bench full of 5* players.

Every team needs role players to fill the roster.

If one of these role players over achieves and becomes a starter, then all will be praising his rise. In order to rise you cannot start at the top.

Oh, come on... Mick has pulled in four and three star recruits, McDonald's All American candidates, and ESPN top 200 players.

Never a shortage of knee jerk reactions on this board, I'm afraid.

If you don't think recruiting has been disappointing, I'd disagree.

As has been pointed out in thread after thread, being a McDonald's All-American candidate isn't exactly a huge deal. Hundreds of players are nominated and for whatever reason a decent amount of the consensus top 100 or so guys were left off the list. Why? Who knows. If I remember correctly, we assumed it was grades-related for some of them.

3 and 4-star recruits don't matter if they're not evaluated properly and/or aren't developed by the coaching staff.

Edit: I mean, go look at the 247 team rankings. It leaves a lot to be desired, especially when you're forced to look at what Xavier's done over the years.

I didn't say I wasn't disappointed, although I am disappointed with the consistency of quality recruiting more than the ratings of guys we're actually getting. I think getting consensus three and four star guys (meaning everyone mostly agrees they are quality recruits) with an occasional five star every couple or few years will make our program as strong as it ever was but people shouldn't be swerving the bandwagon off the side of the road and ramming it into the first hard object they see if it turns out we're after a two star prospect. That just isn't a reasonable response.

A more worthy debate could be had surrounding the development of these players, but I want to see more consistency year to year. I think Jermaine Lawrence not panning out hurt our program but everyone saw him as a big get for us and we got as far as other teams did with his development.

RE: BB Class of 2017
Solly Stansbury, 6-foot-7 guard , visited UC June 6-8

played high school basketball in the United States at Toms River North High School in New Jersey, but has been playing in France for the last few years. He played in 5 games on the senior team for Paris Levallois and also featured heavily on the youth squad last season. Stansbury averaged 8.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 21 minutes per game.

Due to NCAA eligibility rules, there’s a chance that that the 21 year old wing would have to sit out his first year in college.
