App. State has another record year

Our admin says they need to raise way more revenue from private sources.

Our premium seat sales dropped 20% this year from 2011. The SBC call-ups are having record years fundraising.

But hey....they're making a mistake. Nevermind the fact that JMU already charges FBS prices.

cant speak for GS, but we have been trending up for the last 5 or 6 years, don't get me wrong, the move up definitely helps and keeps the momentum moving forward. I think if we hadn't made the move up, eventually the private funds would start to decline. The bottom line is they aren't going to give the money for the joy of watching games against the Citadel, or Western Carolina.

I was looking at the season ticket site on jmusports.com and you can pick your seats online now. I'm not sure of what the season ticket sales are at year over year but there were a lot of good seats available. SMH...

I believe the Duke Club will come in at or close to $2,000,000. Not bad for a current FCS program that will hopefully be FBS soon. We will be at $5,000,000 in no time when we get to FBS. I believe ECU is at $10,000,000 now. They grew it over time based on doing well in FBS and beating the other NC teams.

RE: App. State has another record year
I really believe there is quite a bit of money out there among our alums but it's just a chicken/egg thing right now. Our alumni are not seeing what to donate to over many years, so they lack faith that their donations will do anything to move the needle with this administration. I've talked to many, many people about this. I think the admin is going to have take a risk and pull the trigger. IMO they made it this way. I don't think it's a significant risk, though. I'm very confident that if they make a move our alumni will step to the plate. There are a lot of people quietly paying attention. You just need to give them something.

By the time our admin gets us to FBS, $5M will be equal to $2M of today's dollars just from inflation alone.

No, we wouldn't. They asked 25,000 people to come out and they did. What the hell else are people supposed to do? We have a few people in our administration who don't trust that the alumni will stand up but they absolutely would. It's a shame. In lieu of excitement, we're headed back to a late 90s 1/3 full stadium.

To add, I don't think anyone has ever used the word easy in conjunction with moving to an FBS conference. It's not easy. It involves risk. It involves doing things a little different than we have ever done before. Our president and especially our AD will have to think and make decisions in a different manner. I believe they are allowing their fear to override their desire to compete.

It seems to me they only take risk when it comes to facilities. Look at the Bridgeforth expansion, look at University Park, look at the new basketball facility project. Why take risk for brick and mortar and take none on the actual substance? The whole thing makes no sense to me. People don't care about construction projects in lieu of competitiveness. It's like they are putting all their stock into a push up bra.

2011 - $1,797,102
2012 - $1,822,727
2013 - $1,906,423
2014 - $1,996,122
2015 - Approx $2,000,000

I think we are beginning to stagnate at the $2 million level. We need a good reason to give more.

I'd be willing to bet that number would go to $3.5 with a move and I think I'm being very conservative.

Agree that and a dominate men's sports program. The women's sports are generally carrying the load.

RE: App. State has another record year
I would like to think JB and the administration are watching the case study for FBS football from ODU, App State, and Ga Southern. All three schools are doing well with funding. I would also like to know how much more revenue they earn through corporate sponsorships? I feel in addition to private funds JMU would see a substantial increase in corporate sponsors due to the added exposure.
