Got to give Monken some Kudos! The man is putting his money where his mouth is! And I got a feeling that Southern Miss is going to be much improved in 2015.

I sure would enjoy seeing USM having another successful year. That's one program I've always admired and can only imagine how hard it has been on their fans these last few years.

As long as they LOSE in San Marcos . . . . . Other than that, I wish them well.

I like Monken, but even he has to know that he's on the hot seat regardless and has to at least show a .500 record

That's a pretty safe bet on his part, but quite an interesting thing for him to say nonetheless.

That's a safe statement. There have been so many new bowl games added that every CUSA team with a 6-6 record will go to a bowl game this season. Monken is starting his third year and is 4-20. If he doesn't get to 6-6 he will probably be released.

I fully expect for this to be a turnaround season for USM. Monken is a good coach and has recruited well. The Golden Eagles will be bowling again come December.

Good comments, but I will mention that I care about playing Tulane, Memphis, and UH.

The intangibles are there, just have to grind out the tangible success now.

Do that in one hand and poop in the other and see which one fills up first.

Where do the USM fans expect the 6 wins to come from? I see Austin Peay, Charlotte, and Texas State as good chances with ODU, UTSA and North Texas possbile since they are home games. Are these the 6 you guys are hoping for?

I will start with the opening game against cowpatch u.s.a. (wishful thinking, but so was the perception of many in the '80s when we had that memorable series working)

not slamming your question and personally speaking for others, we don't care how or who after that....we just care that it happens....that's our current mindset.....one game at a time baby....

7-5 or 8-4.

Probable wins: Austin Peay, Texas State, North Texas, UTSA, Charlotte
Probable Losses: Mississippi St., Nebraska, Marshall
Toss-up: UTEP (home), Rice, Old Dominion (home), Louisiana Tech (rivalry)

By hook or crook I am looking for USM to win the conference this season.

I think it's great that Monken is doing this. The fans are part of the team. Their support means everything and it can mean the difference between a win or a loss. I think USM gets it's 6 wins this year.

I'd take Marshall vs. USM for the championship in a heartbeat.

RE: Monken expects bowl; challenges fans.
There are so many question marks at this point that it is hard to make any sort of educated prediction. I don't mean this in a completely negative way either. We now have more depth and talent at just about every position since Monken has been here. Will the talent and depth turn out a winning season? Bowl game? Who knows.

The fact that we are in this position is a good thing. With the addition of JUCO players, incoming talented freshmen and developed upper classmen, it at least gives you hope that this "perfect storm" combination will produce. I have been sucked in to this optimism before though and had my heart broken many times. So I will enter this year once again with cautious optimism.

I like Monken a lot. I will always be a Southern Miss fan. I want to win. We need a breath of fresh air brought back to this program. Fans need something to be proud of. I think Monken and this team are the ones to do that. Again, cautious optimism.

Strong words for a team that is 4-32 in our last 36 games.
