Pastner is not Coach K. No one has argued that. In fact, a repeat of last season should result in Memphis making a move. And the four consecutive tourney teams, while good, sometimes better than good, did indeed come up a game short a few years running.
But why so many of you insist if acting like we never won a game the last half decade is beyond me. It fits the thug narrative but is embarrassing.

The sad thing is that this guy is serious.
Thought he was a she and omg he can't be serious. we are back from being bullies to thugs again and now we haev an ass quitter from beiarcrest to join us. SMDH

" boosters are tapped out of cash."
Plain and utter BS. However, i'm officially pulling my donations to the university until Pastner is replaced.

We all should have seen something was terribly wrong during the 2013 season. That team was too talented to get blown out as many times as they did.

Wolken has no clue. You don't have to pay every penny up front. Most schools work deals like 1 or 2 million a year for a few years to buyout contracts. It could of happened this year but the AD didn't want it!
We will have a new coach next year at this time!

7 guys transferred in the last 12 months. Doesn't that fall on the coach?

Well if "keeping the kids you recruit" reads that way in the contract - the university might have a case. I doubt it's in there --- but just a guess.
Josh can be fired anytime with ZERO repercussions for the University --- except of course the $10,000,000+ he is still owed, there is nothing keeping him legally here, and there is no way to break the contract (not pay him all the $$$ ) unless he leaves on is own accord or he calls Chenoa Douglass.
How is it still $10mm?
Three seasons left on his contract. $2.65 x 3 = $7.95mm. At the end of this year, it is $5.3mm.
As anyone familiar with these types of buyouts or orchestrates these deals, the buyout is almost always less than the true value of the remaining contract. Part (maybe much) of the $2.65 is based on the MAXIMUM he can earn with bonuses like winning COY, NCAA title, progressing a certain level in the NCAAt, radio fees, etc.
I would be willing to bet that, if necessary, $3mm will be the magic number come next April.
NO on both accounts:
Details of contract
"Pastner's contract is in effect for the next five seasons, through 2017-18. Automatic renewals are included after each of the next two seasons, meaning the deal is structured to extend through 2019-20."

Automatic renewal if (emphasis added ) Pastner is head coach on April 1. 2018.
If he's not hc, he can't be extended.

Wrong Again - click here for pdf of contract
pg 1 of Employment Agreement Between Joshua Pastner and the University of Memphis Section 1 paragraph A. .. " On April 7, 2015 the the ending date of the term of this agreement shall automatically change to be April 6, 2020. "

I know a little about contracts and negotiation, but Google is also very easy
Hey thanks. Never actually seen a copy of the contract. In the article you posted the re-ups hadn't taken place automatically yet.
However, you are spot on. His contract is now rock solid until 2020, so even after the end of this season, he'll still have a buyout in the $10mm range.
Holy sh1t. Wolken probably is right. Boosters won't be able to come off 10 million dollars and THEN pay another.
Wow.

Wouldn't it still depend on who 'the other' is and how much he wants, if we are in a P5 and where Josh Pastner goes from here?

You're like a broken record. We get it you think Josh has done an admirable job. Quit sugar-coating his **** for once. The guy is complete fraud. You know it and I know it. When people in the know make comments like "he has the worst basketball instincts I've ever seen". What more do you need to hear?
Give it up. You like the rest of us misjudged this guy. When are you going to come around like the rest of us. The longer you hold on the dumber you look.

Who the heck negotiated a contract like that for the University? Holy moly. That's insane. Dude doesn't have an agent either, right? Sheesh.
Here's hoping the super secret 5 million buyout clause that's not publicly available isn't the fantasy that it sounds like it is.
Yeah he's here at least through 2017 unless a really generous benefactor wants to bail us out of that horrible contract. Or he terminates it. Wow. Just wow.
