Rest in peace.

I'm kind of stunned he lived that long. He was not exactly "risk-averse".

Several players that Coach Saban has given at least one additional chance has had to put up with claims from some fans that "Bear would never tolerate that".

In 1966, Stabler was returning from suspension for the first game of the season against LA Tech. He was listed as the fifth string QB on the program. LA Tech came out with Terry Bradshaw at QB and he lit up the Tide defense for a lot of yardage in the first two series. They didn't score, but they were really racking up yardage and Bryant could see an upset in the making. When Bama took the field again, Kenny Stabler was forgiven and back in the game, and Bama won it by a decent score - I think it was like 30-7.

Probably his most remembered game was the "Mud Bowl" when he ran around the right end for a TD to win the Iron bowl game. The grass had mostly died and the Park Board had painted the dirt green, and then it poured down rain.

His worst moment was when, against UTK, he threw a pass out of bounds to stop the clock to set up a winning FG only to realize too late it was 4th down. The game ended in a 7-7 tie.

His most remembered game had nothing to do with Bama or your beloved Bear. His most remembered game would be winning the Super Bowl.

I watched a few local stations and every one of them ran the Iron Bowl /Mud Bowl TD play while his NFL SB game was mentioned but not shown. Perhaps on Memphis TV they did it differently.

Only in Alabama is he most remembered as playing for Bama. Check out some of the national stories. ESPN, NY Times, Yahoo, Cbssports... (Oh I forgot, you don't google). They lead with "former Oakland Raider Ken Stabler..."

I enjoyed him as Eli Gold's radio partner during the waning years of my Tide days. RIP Snake

i enjoyed our pool at the Flora Bama one early Saturday morning in 1990. This isn't a picture of then, but I like it anyway.

Rest in Peace, Kenny
