Yeah, he wears the shirt, but when the levee breaks, he'll have no place to stay.

Some may say Zep stole all their music from the old Mississippi blues men. That may be true, but I still love it. It is only fitting that Robert would "Bring It on Home..." with this photo.

Which one of you ole codgers was there?

The lyrics of Led Zeppelin’s opening song went “Set my soul on fire. We’re Gonna Groove – my, my, my – we’re gonna groove” And with the help of 10,732 Memphis fans these four British blues men did exactly that at Mid-South Coliseum last night.

On April 17th of 1970, the city of Memphis presented Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham and John Paul Jones with the keys to the city because, according to Plant, “the mayor was astonished at how quickly ‘this Led Zeppelin fellow’ had sold out the local arena.”

However, after the mayor had actually seen what this ‘Led Zeppelin fellow’ looked like, he quickly slammed the metaphorical door on the band.

Jimmy Page explained the day’s events, saying, “We got the keys in the afternoon, but I guess they didn’t like the looks of us. Shortly after, we were threatened and had to get the hell out of town. They didn’t like the long hair at all.”

They didn't steal it, they were inspired by it and when they tried to interpret it, it came out Zepplin!

That sounds like a poor imitation of delta blues to me.

RE: Robert Plant is a Tiger...?
90% of blues is in either E or A.
Most of it is based on 12 bars.
Gonna be some carryover and poaching.
That said, Zep was sued by Williamson's people, Dixon's people, Richie Valens' people, Jake Holmes' people, and Memphis Minnie's people.

"Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal." Attributed to TS Eliot

Everybody did. Listen to the first two Status Quo albums and you'll think they're a blues band. As OMG showed in the rock and roll thread a while back, rock and roll is really back into the 30's, it was only when a white kid started playing it that it became its own genre.

Jimmy Page stole the tune for "Stairway to Heaven" from Randy California and his group Spirit...who once toured with Led Zepplin.

Hadn't heard that one. But Milton Berle said, "I know a good joke when I steal one."

Oh yeah, Randy has played it for years, I think there was a lawsuit but too sick to google it.

This.

They interpreted the hell outta of it!! Bach, Vivaldi, Telemann and those guys would take the same theme and style that one of them 'thought up' and then put his own spin on it. It was considered high praise to have your theme repeated by another worthy composer. lol.

He has a house in nashville and was at a show at minglewood hall here in m-town a couple of years ago to check out the North MS Allstars. Not surprised to see him visiting the MS blues trail.
