It will be interesting to see who replaces PBJ. Will it be a Bryant Bank plant? Or will UAH get a token member?

It's all in the text of the article, but no quotes that flesh out the juicy part of the article, and the video is stupidly short.

I thought Brooks was his replacement as president as well as on the board

Brooks was already on the board. Cubby's leaving an empty seat (for which I'm sure a replacement has already been picked).

I think separate boards for all three schools reporting to an oversight board is the best chance we have. There is no way the BOT is going to allow a restructure of the current format to allow Birmingham and Huntsville as much say as Tuscaloosa. The question is, would the BOT allow this type of system to be put in play?

Does PBJ have offspring?

In Alabama in general, any substantive change to "the way things have always been done" is seen as a sign of "the end of days". Nothing important has ever been changed unless the federal courts and / or Congress has forced it. That is why Gov. Bentley ordering the removal of flags was so unusual - he was not forced by the feds to do it.

I would like a Florida set up for all public Post Secondary schools, but the fiefdom mentality of our state's leadership makes such progressive change very unlikely.

Let's use the upcoming special session as another opportunity to meet and speak with legislators about BOT reform. The Legislature won't address the issue in its actual special session but we are being give a golden opportunity to bring attention to the issue once again and to help Rep. Williams convince his fellow legislators that this is more than just football. Keeping the heat on legislators will assist Rep. Williams in broaching the issue again come next Jan/Feb when the regular session convenes.

Equal representation or separation. And, as always, #FreeUAB

I hope Jack's new bill does not propose to have the new BOT be appointed by the politicians.

The current BOTs has been bad for UAB - especially athletics. I was mad as hell and supported that bill even though it had a very bad process of appointing new members by politicians

However to turn UAB over to the Riley-Hubbard cartel could be a lot worse. We would going from incompetent amateur already rich crooks to professional hungry who living off the public is their primary source of income.

Yes, but what do we have now....rich people still living off of and manipulating the public tax dollars and they are self perpetuating. So its bad either way but one of the two options allows for people to be removed and one doesnt or shall I say one is cloaked in secrecy.

I am in no way in favor of keeping the current BOT structure. BUT there is not just one options to replace the current BOTs. I am just saying the particular political option that Jack proposed could be much worse than present one. We should formulate a better plan than one developed in the best interest of a cartel. Hell as far as I heard Hubbard did not even informally/behind the scenes support us.

That's how I felt originally. Devil that you know and all that, but I ultimately ending up feeling that any action was better than none.

Thus far, I think the progress made towards our goals in the capital are satisfactory considering the monumental task. For a grassroots movement to so swiftly set to getting lobbyists and engaging various levels of government in an organized fashion is of real merit. I trust Jack, but a lot of his contemporaries pander way too much to their electorate that will always swear against anything perceived to be against Alabama. I like to think that the pressure exerted by having legislation pending aided the cause, but the only real chance it'd have is if some really nasty stuff was leaked about the board.

I don't think so. That's the good news. The bad news is there is indeed a Fess 5.
