College sports are a big business and will continue to be. Grabbing the number 2 spot in Louisiana in football and competing and perhaps winning the number 1 spot in other major sports has value, real value today, and perhaps much more value in the near future.

Louisiana isn't Utah, or the state of Vermont, or even New York. A lot of prime talent exists in the state though much of it signs with LSU or leaves the state to play with other P5's. The Cajun program intends to compete for its share of those players. I read an article just yesterday in the Advocate where the Cajun coaches said it's impressive how quickly the recruiting tide has turned in our favor. We're still losing recruits to the P5's, but more than ever we're in the hunt for many of them until the very end, and now signing players who before wouldn't have given us a sniff.

BR's content for LaTech to be considered a midget. That's fine, that program is succeeding in being midgets in the majority of their sports. But donors don't want to donate to programs with that attitude, fans don't want attend the games, and athletes don't want to cast their lot with such programs. Fortunately, I don't see that mentality coming from the Cajun athletic department.

if you go to the northeast, how many people up there do you think know who University of Louisiana at Lafayette is? not a whole lot. some people may have heard the name, but most will know nothing. You ask them who UGA is, who LSU is, who UCLA is, they will know.

You guys may be a household name in LA, and you will be known to high school athletes in the area who get recruited, but big picture, the name recognition for you guys vs LaTech probably isn't that different once you get outside of the Sun Belt and CUSA.

And that isn't meant to diss either team, but that is the life of a non P5 team. You and LaTech can fight over who the number 2 team in the state is, but if you go outside of the state and away from someone who follows CUSA or SB, and most people don't care, nor have ever considered what other programs are in the state, because most people only know LSU.
Just like if you go outside of Georgia, people might have heard the name Georgia Southern, but it isn't going to register like GT and UGA.

If you think otherwise, you are fooling yourself.

We recruit louisiana and the south... Not the northeast, so what do people up there knowing who we are have to do with 16-17-18 year olds in the south considering playing here? We recruit from texas to georgia/florida...Australia and Canada

because the "value" in college sports, is people knowing who the hell you are and wanting to watch your team. You want your brand to grow? Then you will want people all over the country knowing who you are, not just 17 year old recruits.

If we're gonna grab the number 2 spot in the state, we need to finish ahead of them in both football and basketball (the 2 sports that matter) which we failed to do last year. We gotta step our hoops program up...

And how do you do that? By winning... How do you win? By getting better 17 year olds than the next guy. You don't win by Google trends, you with with johnny's and Joe's. I'll put athletes in the southeast up against any other region america, all day everyday. I bet everyone in the northeast knows who tulane is... Because that's who goes there, still doesn't help them win games. It's actually a big reason why nobody goes to their games. By cementing 2nd program in the state, we get the louisana recruits that want to stay he but don't gonto lsu and in this state... I'll take those all day long.

Auburn and Alabama fans are both secure enough about their programs that they don't need to try to convince others of how good they are.

If we're gonna grab the number 2 spot in the state, we need to finish ahead of them in both football and basketball (the 2 sports that matter) which we failed to do last year. We gotta step our hoops program up...

We will beat them for a 3rd year straight in basketball.

Jeez, you peeps are missing the point. The Cajun program was basically dormant for most of my adult life. With the exception of basketball back in the Bo Lamar days, we not only didn't compete, our administration didn't give a rat's ass.

As I said, both Tulane and the Cajun program gave the number 2 spot to LaTech on a silver platter for years. No more.

And while competing for and holding the number 2 spot in most sports in Louisiana doesn't mean we can't work towards national recognition as well, first things first. Build the facilities, recruit the players, excel in every sport possible, grab the attention of the fans and the donors, and win. My contention is that across the board we're doing that much better today than ULM, Tulane, or LaTech. Mas nada.

So? Do you think they'd trade their season of losing to us but advancing in the NIT for our beating them and playing in the CIT? Bottom line is they had a better season than us in basketball last year....

maybe I should just state it more simply.

Nobody, outside of ULL, LAT, and Tulane gives a crap about who the number 2 team in the state is, because nationally, they are all irrelevant in terms of branding.

So? And the year before we were in the NCAA tournament, something they've not done since most of the posters here were probably crapping their diapers.

They play in a conference with generally better basketball teams and therefore have an easier road to improving their RPI over the course of the season. We play in a conference that generally doesn't give a squat about basketball. So.....it is what it is for the moment.

Beyond that though, beating them at their place and ending a looonnng home winning streak, and then beating them again at our place is as good a place as any to start. No? Or do you have another solution to being better in basketball than they?

Like they would trade the world for beating us in football? 2 years ago when we beat them and went to the ncaa, just goons forget about that? They have had 2 great seasons. Let's see how they respond without their coach.

Funny thing is no one in the Sun Belt has sold more sports attire then UL. So it clearly seems no one cares about any of the SBC programs nationally.

yup. pretty much. go anywhere outside of the southeast and ask a casual football fan to name more than 3 sun belt schools.

on a side note, do you have a link to the apparel sales for each SB school? I would be interested in looking at that.
