RE: New Football Stadium Update
There is no doubt that Mercer's stadium has us beat in terms of design, video board, field house, capacity, etc., but I am not sure we are making accurate comparisons here.
I just read an article from 2011 where the Mercer President had said that their roughly 6,000 seat stadium would cost in the neighborhood of $14 million. I wonder if the finished product cost much more than the $14 million?
I also wonder how much our current stadium costs. I believe that the estimated $26.6 million listed on the ETSU football stadium site includes the field house, 10,000 seats, and the other concession area. Since we aren't doing the field house, or the 10,000 seats, and waiting until later to do the concession area- I would hope that what we are looking at for this season didn't cost anywhere near $26.6 million. I bet Nate Morabito will find out at some point though.
If we are indeed paying $10 million more for our finished product compared to Mercer's finished product, we got ripped off badly.

RE: New Football Stadium Update
As I recall, Mercer didn't plan on scholarship football. They planned to play non-scholly in the Pioneer League. When the opportunity presented itself to move to the SoCon, they went ahead and built a bigger stadium and improved things drastically. I'm 100% sure they didnt build what they have now, for that smaller price tag.

Sorry, but how is their video board better than ours? My understanding is that ours was going to be one of the largest in FCS.

RE: New Football Stadium Update
According to the contractor it cost 19.5 million dollars to build Five Star Stadium in Macon, Ga.
https://www.chrisrsheridan.com/mercer-fieldhouse.html
Until something can be built that is at least the equivalent to Mercer's field house and probably better than that, they need to hold off. Get out and win some games, get people to show up. Figure out what they want to do long term in regards of staying FCS, finding a way to transition up, etc... then make the move for a football building, that could also house tennis and soccer facilities, along with a museum/Hall of Fame for ETSU athletics.

Perhaps it is the difference between seeing a video board in the stadium (with the advertising on the side) vs. the standalone photo that we released, but our video board just looked very boxy and bland to me. Now that I am looking at a webpage of the biggest FCS video boards, ours would rank in the top 15 or so. Mercer is listed at 48th.

RE: New Football Stadium Update
Do you remember the measurements of our video board? I thought it was around 1500 sq ft but not for sure. If it is, that would put us around the top 6 or 7 largest.
Update: its 1125 sq ft (25 x 45 ft) and would make us the 13th largest. And there's not much separating 13th from 5th.

These would be some good questions for someone to ask at the tour today.
I am guessing that the 26.6 million number was the price for the finished stadium with all concessions, 10k seats and fieldhouse; not just the phase 1 that will be completed soon. I am guessing that they were going to go over that number if they did the fieldhouse in phase 2 so they decided to scrap it since they could use a combination of the maintenance building and mini-dome. This also makes sense because the fieldhouse in the plan was pretty basic and they need one that will be as good or better than the ones places like Mercer and UNCC have built.
I really hope that phase 2 funding is on track and they will start on that when the season is over.

What Sander & Co. have done with this project is next to miraculous given what they inherited from the previous regime. They have raised millions, built this facility, and accomplished a significant cultural attitude adjustment in a confident, professional manner that looks like just any other usual and customary business deal. However, I stand by my original money thing -- $14-$19 million (Mercer stadium) vs $25+
million (ETSU stadium). But, on the other hand and after further reflection, am sure Dr Sander will explain all the cost questions in due time.

I did the tour today. I'd never noticed before, but the curvature of the stands is a nice, modern element.
Not a bad seat in the house.

I watched it on Facebook live today, very interesting for sure. I think they're short changing themselves on bathrooms, and when they build the new buildings instead of building two more of the same, I'd make one a store with bathrooms on each side. Have an actual walk in area where fans can go and shop for ETSU merchandise before and during games (similar to the Vol Shop at Gate 21 inside Neyland Stadium).
