RE: New Football Stadium Update
As has been pointed out on here numerous times, building the Fine Arts Center and the football stadium in the same time frame virtually neutralizes certain competing forces. It is good to see both projects about to be launched -- with the potential economic impact of both most hard to refute.

RE: New Football Stadium Update
I'm watching the Marshall at Middle Tennessee game. It seems the new ETSU stadium design is patterned after MTSU....perhaps so they can used MTSU's architectural drawings! It's been a disaster for Middle. The end zone seats are a waste because no one sits there and every time there is a field goal attempt or extra point....all you see is empty seats! ETSU still has time to do the stadium correctly with no end zone seats anywhere.

He speaks the truth- but we all know that the design isn't going to change.

You all are probably going to get your wish initially because it seems the first phase will only seat 7k.

I personally would not want to sit in the end zone seats but I also don't have a problem putting them in for band, students and "family fun/5 dollar" type seating.

Speaking of stadium designs without end-zones; here is the master plan from 2002. Oh what could have been.

Those clowns running the show would have never gotten anything done. Don't put a lot of stock into that.

Guessing the image that resembles a football field but is labeled "new baseball field" is, in fact, a football stadium?

I think that image is from when Stansbury was the AD. I believe if he would have had a President like Noland it would have got done.

Had it been Stansbury and Noland together we'd be playing in C-USA, the A-Sun would've never happened.

Now, for MIsterJennings2, the stadium is designed EXACTLY like UNC-Charlotte. It's dug into the ground. Johnny "Red" Floyd Stadium in Murfreesboro is not. The seats at MTSU were empty Saturday due to it being cold and rainy here, not to mention MTSU hasn't been very good. A 3-5 team, cold weather, and a lot of things going on around town led to a really poorly attended game there. But rest assured, their 30,000 plus seat stadium is designed nothing like what ETSU is doing.

Interesting note from today's groundbreaking ceremony:

Notice anything different about the end zone? According to the flyer this will be a grass bank in 2017 with the ability to expand and add 3,600 seats in the future.

New Football Stadium Update
I think the grass bank is a better option than seats frankly. Like buclover said before, make it a cheap family section.

I like it. Glad to see that it has started. Would love for it to be bigger but if this all gets done in 2017 it will be amazing.

Very glad to see this process get started! I see from the photo that the field house probably won't be ready by 2017, but I am still excited. I agree with many of you that a grass bank is probably best for long-term than completing the horseshoe design. Maybe they will figure that out after we begin play.

Yes but I really like the idea of it being closed in. It gives a better feel and atmosphere to the game. Also the old stadium on campus had grassy banks in the end zones. I am just glad they did not put two banks of seats on the sides and left the ends open. That to me would be too much like a high school stadium. This is one of the most significant events we have witnessed over the last couple of decades. Thank you Dr. Noland.

RE: New Football Stadium Update
I see the rendering of what is being put out now is different than the original design. Your stadium was supposed to be almost identical to UNC Charlotte; now that appears not to be the case. Now it appears ETSU has foregone the seating, video board and field house (until the future) but no one has stated when in the future that might happen. Now I am starting to wonder if they will build the tower, private boxes and press box to design. When I originally posted about recruiting way back when, I stated kids will come if they feel they can play early, knowing they will play 3-4 years in that new stadium (the premier stadium in the SoCon). That statement was based on the school building to the original design. I now believe recruits (true talent) will turn away from a 7k seat, non- DI feeling facility and turn towards other SoCon schools. This was ETSU’s way to build a signature program – a way to lead in the SoCon. But strip away that porker chip and this stadium now becomes nothing more than a 5/6A high school facility. Don’t get me wrong, but if I had a recruit looking at ETSU and the likes of the Cidadel, Mercer, Chatt or WCU, who do think has more pull? I don’t know, lou you guys, but I think you might have dropped the ball on this chance.

RE: New Football Stadium Update
I have to say I agree here. We are basically going to be playing in a stadium the same size as Science Hill, with just a few extra bells and whistles. While I don't like the idea of the end zone seats, I think it's crucial to get the stadium to around 10k soon.
