It really is sad. Over the last decade we've done just about every single thing you could do wrong. We had all the momentum in the world. Like you said, what could have been.

Haha, that really is beyond embarrassing. Nothing like an engaged university. You literally have someone sitting there deleting facebook comments. LOL. I mean, you have to be kidding.

Alger Letter - “we feel strongly that our budgets must reflect our missions and the needs of all of our students.”

The above sentence included in an article that states JMU has the largest fcs budget in the country is mind-blowing.

Jon Alger is a hypocrite (above) and a liar (not if, when...) Jon Alger is no longer my president...

Neither he or Bourne will sack up and clean this up, they have no honor.

Cost of Attendance
Honestly what's pissing me off the most about this is that they're deleting people's Facebook comments. This is a new low.

Sounds like damage control to me. 03-banghead

Nothing more pathetic than releasing a comment for one reason and one reason only....Ya go caught Jon Boy, you admit ya got caught in your response. JMU alum don't trust you Jon Boy. You lied about a Sunbelt offer, keep on digging the hole or prove me wrong....communicate about JMU athletics transparently for the first time since your inauguration.

I just posted my third comment, can anyone see it now?

Asking for a friend.

I don't know, but that's bad form. I know most of us have completely had it with this administration but if you pledge a gift, the only reasonable excuse for backing out of it is if you incur some unforeseen financial event in your life. Otherwise, bite the bullet and keep your word. If you don't want to make donations going forward, that's up to you. But, if you say you're going to help and don't, I think that's bush league.

I'll pass on your comments to my friend.

Ps. It was a joke.

I posted on the status on the JMU Sports Facebook page and I can only see my own post. Is it the same way for everyone else?

This is obviously what being "the national model for the engaged university" looks like. I hope everyone is looking forward to continually being "engaged in excellence!"

RE: Cost of Attendance
Are the lawyers still analyzing the COA issues? Embarrassing.

Kenny has built something amazing with the women's basketball program that would greatly benefit from COA as most of the peers you are recruiting against (big schools) are going be able to offer this. This has to hurt and just makes the job of recruiting harder. No i don't expect you to fall off a cliff but why make Kenny win with an arm tied behind his back? Already has to play in that dump of a Convo. Amazing work he's done considering. Not only would this make his job harder but would make me start to look around for a bigger job if this is how my admin is going to back the program.

Men's basketball is a sport you can make a splash on the national stage if done correctly. Masons, Richmonds, ODU, Towson, UNCW are schools I know off hand offering COA for basketball. These should be the type of teams your looking to compete with if the program is healthy and making an impact.

COA for men's and women's basketball costs $100k a year. Sadly it appears the peers you have chosen to associate with are the high and mighty looking to save student athletes from being corrupted by additional funding.

Until you go FBS I don't think you need to give COA for football, as that would be cost prohibitive considering what CFB peers are offering in FCS. But obviously if FBS is on the horizon, you better get past this standing by your presidents of VMI and other embarrassments to save the sanctity of the student athlete.

When you are willing to spend hundreds of millions on facilities for revenue producing sports, when the coaches make hundreds of thousands, god forbid the kids get gas and pizza money. They are already NOT like your normal students. You spend thousands on academic support to get students that would often never ever even be admitted into your school through. Yes this is additional benefit that should be recognized and it is of value, but stop it with the "balance the support and spending on athletics with our primary academic and student priorities." GMAFB. That ship has sailed.

Yup, Kenny deserves better. He has remained loyal. Now he has to fight at a disadvantage, through no fault of his own. Wouldn't blame him at all for exploring other options.

I really think we should set high goals and try to be the only remaining FCS team in the country, then JB and JA can tout us being pernially ranked #1 in Division 1 football.

Agreed, but it's just par for the course. Stalinist Russia was more interested in open dialogue than the JMU administration. Ironic for a school named for the Father of the First Amendment.

Some one smarter than me will have to explain the functional distinction there.

Canceling scheduled interviews, declining comment (at least comment that wasn't written by a team of lawyers and PR people), and deleting dissenting views online. THAT is an engaged university, my friends.

If I could take a step back and forget the fact they've been lying to us about FBS for all these years, this would actually be pretty funny. It's like an episode of Veep. Or the Keystone Kops. Take your pick.

RE: Cost of Attendance
I mentioned this in another thread. JMU gets so much of its athletic budget from student fees that the fact the Duke Club gifts barely increase every year, attendance has dropped at football almost 30% since the stadium opened, and basketball attendance continues to struggle just doesn't matter to these folks. They have their opinion on how to run the athletic program and the rest of us be damned. As long as football hangs between 15-20k, basketball gets a couple thousand, and the Duke Club continues to hang around $2 million, they'll continue to keep their head in the sand and do whatever the they want.

They censor our comments, they ignore our frustrations, and we continue to sit back and let them "monitor" the situation. I don't see any indication that JMU has aspirations to be a nationally branded athletic program so all of us screaming about declining attendance, declining donations, and declining interest just doesn't matter. They'll get their student fees and the sun will continue to rise of their agenda...
