Hopefully a great year with a lot of success. I think the schedule is very favorable for the team this year and if some of the replacements for the players we lost step up I think we will have a good shot at the playoffs.

Undefeated.

Going undefeated is possible. Unlikely, but possible. If the defense steps up, it becomes more likely. While I think we should roll in our first three games (heavy favorites at home) before heading to SMU, I'm looking for the D to work out some kinks and get some newbies some valuable experience. More 3-and-outs. Give Vad and the O the ball more frequently and in better field position. If we win shootouts against the likes of Lehigh and Albany, then there is no way we go undefeated and I'd even say my prediction of 9-2/7-1 heading into the playoffs is definitely at risk. I don't worry about our 3rd stringers giving up a couple of late TD's, but hopefully our 1st and 2nd team D can limit our first 3 opponents to 10 pts or less heading into the 4Q.

Withers is supposed to be a strong D coach. Hopefully we'll see progress in Year 2.

60 days until kickoff!!
Poor defense is expected based on graduations and offseason defections.

We may see some basketball type scores this year.
58-48

You may be right. The losses in personnel will hopefully be offset by the learning curve improving. Defenders having to think too much instead of executing is common in year 1 of a staff overhaul. In year 2, you may still have some of that but you'd like to start seeing some progress. Once the guys are playing with their instincts, proper techniques and reads, while not having to think about their assignment on every play or where their teammates are supposed to be, we should see some significant improvement. Whether that happens in 2015 or halfway thru 2015 when hopefully a light bulb will come on for these guys or perhaps we have to wait until 2016, I'm just hopeful we get there PDQ.

I feel like I might be in the minority, but I'd rather watch a 58-48 game than a 17-7 game.

Thoughts from the peanut gallery?

Agree, I prefer the wide-open, spread-out style of play. One good thing about this style of play is it gives you a much better chance of over-coming a double digit deficit if they team digs an early hole.

The absolute best is a game with scoring like our Chattanooga championship. A little bit of it all from both sides.

2008 App State game. Greatest college football game I have ever seen!!

Have it on DVD and watch it every now and then to remind me how great a day that was.

The Bookstore for a few years sold a picture that was taken from behind the MRD's at the top
of the temp stands looking down the stands onto the field just as Scotty received the second half kickoff.
It was titled "The Greatest Comeback". Bought a copy of it for the older daughter who was in the MRD's at the
time. Great pic, great game.

Go Dukes!!

Rootin!!

When I'm partial to the outcome, I prefer 58-7 type games.

When I'm not, I just want to see good football. Meaning points and yards are earned through strategy, skill, and technique, and not through an opponent's mistakes and sloppiness.

Great time back in the day... When it seemed like JMU moving up to FBS was more of a "when" than "if"..

I prefer when the Dukes win 52-10 over a quality opponent. :>)

you guys honor us, I would think beating VA Tech in that driving rainstorm would mean more to you guys than the comeback win against my App.

First of all, it wasn't a driving rainstorm. I was there, it was a steady drizzle. Barely a hindrance for passing or catching a football.

Second, you guys have been a nemesis for some time. We look at you as an equal, yet you have gotten the better of us on the gridiron and often they were close games in which either team could have won, but you came out on top more often than not. You are a team/school/university JMU loves to hate.

Sure it was great to beat Tech and knock those guys down a notch, but we realize those victories are more of an anomaly that you pull off one out of 10 times with most of the defeats being lopsided losses.

Beating a ranked FBS school as an FCS school has been done twice in history so that is higher odds than one out of ten. It is more of a once or twice in a lifetime.

With your spin I completely agree. We've played Tech 7 times, I seriously doubt they were ranked all 7 times. When we scheduled them we had no idea they would be ranked at the time of our meeting. Yes, this was a great victory, but I will stick with my odds and say that we might beat Tech 1 out of 10 times.

The odds of our beating another ranked team are very low. As for me, I really could have cared less if Tech was ranked at the date of the game as I received the exact same joy when we beat UVA and they were one of the worst teams in the country. I was at both games and I'm not so sure the UVA victory wasn't a bigger celebration for me.

I was using the following logic:

Tech 6 - JMU 1
UVA 2 - JMU 1
UMD 3 - JMU 0
UNC 2 - JMU 0
WVA 2 - JMU 0
Navy 1 - JMU 2
Duke 1 - JMU 0
Akron 1 - JMU 0

Back to the topic of why I chose the Chatty game as the type of game I most prefer, over some of these other great victories, It was the type of game no fan ever sat down. I cannot say that about the Appy game as the first half was quite depressing and against Tech the first half was close in score due to our one long TD, otherwise, JMU fans had little reason to stand until the second half. If you sat during the Montana victory then you didn't understand the game of football.
