Big 12 dissolves and is absorbed in the other 4 contract conferences (some moves will be obvious, others will not be so obvious)

Notre Dame joins the ACC and gives up it's independence.

ESPN owns the media rights to all and finally gives up on the Longhorn Network when the B12 dissolves and Texas joins the PAC.

15 schools from noncontract conferences "join the club" (which 15 is anybody's guess) for a total of 80 schools.

This new 80 team conglomeration forms a new division of college football.

Each conference (20 teams) (10 in each division) plays 9 intradivisional games and 3 interdivisional games for a total of 12 games.

No more out of conference games.

Top 2 from each division play conference championship game (1st round of the now "8 team playoff).

Highly ranked teams (and others) that do not make the playoff go bowling in the major / minor bowls.

This means the eventual "national champion" would have ended up playing only 3 extra games (which is still 1 less than the FCS playoffs)
1. conference championship - game 13
2. semifinals - game 14
3. championship - game 15

This is where I see it going "eventually".

What will force ND to angrily, sullenly and very reluctantly agree to give up its current status to its detriment?

Why would the ACC want a football program in its conference that is filled with angry, sullen, hostile fans who don't want it there and who will feel cheated and will not think it fits in with any football conference?

Your "no more OOC games" makes the prospect of such a fate all the more dreadful.

What an awful, incestuous idea.......

JMHO Terry.

As for OOC games. Made sense when conferences only had 8 to 10 teams in them and obviously because of rivalries. But as conferences continue to grow and rivalries continue to end (TX/TAMU, Neb/OU etc.), are OOC games really needed anymore?

80 teams.........watch.

I'm beginning to think a lot of AAC fans have this issue with reasoning and logic... ECU fans just have delusions of grandeur and narrow tunnel vision for their school, but they're nowhere near as bad as UCONN fans

There it is. Only a matter of time before you bring up UCONN again. You should really see a doctor - your obsession is not healthy. 07-coffee3

Anytime anyone points out the realities of UConn or their fans around here, someone comes rushing in to talk about how said poster has an "unhealthy obsession" with UConn and then tries to say how none of the facts are really facts. It's humorous. Any realignment post ultimately gets hijacked by UConn fans...

Very questionable if any current P5 schools trade conferences for a long time. I think ND is the Only program capable of Staying Independent based on Their International following and History of Very High Standards both in Sports and Academics. That said If say the NCAA or whatever body of Government possible down the road says all 5 conferences are to be at 16 each plus Notre Dame then You will see a quick movement to grab the best programs left regardless of AAU or whatever standards used before. It will become a Choice from the G5 schools to pick and Choose where They want to accept the invites from.
"I doubt any conference would Ever go beyond 16 schools Max" you must have not been listening, there has been and still is, wide spread speculation by some pundits Jim Delany/B1G, could expand to 20, eventually

Yeah, a B1G homer that even said "This was posted as a comment by someone identified as BIG20" from 2013 is not a reliable source to run with. We have folks posting that same thing on here too but it doesn't speak reality either.
