I wish ESPN would make a serious go of airing Arena Football this time of year. I think I must be the only person who actually likes the AFL.

I disagree wholeheartedly. Bigger field, smaller players, 3 downs. I love it. Canadian football is an actual cultural sport that developed alongside American football. Arena football's small field & its artificial creation is what ruins it.

He sucked at SMU, but he won a natty at EWU and a Grey Cup last year. Dude balled out last year, but he's been off to a ****** start this year. I remember watching an early season SMU game his freshman year, though, and the announcers were making promises of CUSA POTYs and championships...

The second part is correct, he is Jeff's brother, not his son.

I think some NFL teams will take notice... IF he continues to perform at this level (which I feel that he will). I think you could see Cato in the NFL as early as the end of this CFL season.

This is the reason Cato isn't in the NFL right now:

Ike Taylor Hit On Pat White

I love Cato and what he can do on the field but if someone can't get him to understand that he needs to put on 15-20 pounds and get up to 195-200 pounds he will never get a shot at the NFL. No NFL team wants to see another QB blown up like Pat White was. White was 182 pounds when he was hit.

Cato picked apart the defending Grey Cup Championship defense from last year and made them look like chumps. And from what Ive seen the Stampeders only lost one player from their defense.

HerdZoned, that was an illegal hit from Taylor. It had nothing to do with Pat White's size, he got smacked in the head. Also, I'm sure that Cato would put on 15-20 pounds if he could. The guy has a small frame, I really think that's all there is to it.

Its an illegal hit now, wasn't at the time and it still happens today, every QB has taken the same hit in the last 3 years. And you have to get up from it. Again if Cato was to get hit like that he just like White isn't getting up.

And DOC, Legg and Sinclair all told Cato through out the year last year that he had to add weight if he wanted a shot at the NFL and nothing was done, not even after his final game in the Boca Raton Bowl. And the frame is a cop out, he has about the same frame and height as Drew Brees but Brees is 209 pounds.

Ive always defended Coto from the day he stepped on campus because I sensed that something was special in him but if he refuses to put weight on because he thinks he can play at 175-178 pounds then I can't defend that. He will be relegated to the CFL or Arena League while at that weight.

How can you possibly have any idea what Drew Brees or Rakeem Cato's frame is like? Squinting really hard at the TV and calling upon your medical education?

Yeah, again, the Pat White hit had nothing to do with size. It's clearly helmet-to-helmet. Doesn't matter whether it was legal or not at the time.

Don't like all the CFL rules but there are several that make the game more exciting

1) D can't line up closer than 1 yard to the Line of Scrimmage
2) Kickers can use a tee on FG's
3) No fair catches on punts
4) Defensive team must return kickoffs unless kicked out of the end zone or the D gets 1 point.
5) Less time between plays means more plays per game. Fewer timeouts.

6) Field is 10 yards longer but also 5 yards wider which gives the QB more space to work with. Receivers only need 1 foot inbounds for a completed catch.

Being "relegated" to the CFL may mean that Cato has a long and prosperous career. There are several QB's in that league that last 15 years and they get a nice paycheck.
Zach Collaros(Cincy, All Big East 2010) gets $450K annually.

Not to mention the possible endorsement deals that could come his way since he's in Montreal.

He'll have to learn French though 01-france

CFL field is 12 yards wider than NFL.
