So like a lot of you good folks I hear things and have to think about what is true, rumor, pure speculation and so on. As I try to sort out fact from fiction I seek info here on our message board to help me ponder it all. So can anyone update me/us on the real current status of Coach Jones health and what issues he is really facing? All illumination (PMs are fine) appreciated. Thanks!

I have no source of, or interest in rumors, and I think they would be very inappropriate in this instance. Coach Jones had his prostrate removed in a DaVinci procedure, and is recovering nicely. The last thing I saw printed regarding JJ was that he came to the Constant Center and met briefly with Xavier Green, a recruit, on the day of the Big Blue BBQ.

I have nothing later than these, but it sounds like he's recovering nicely.

If you really want to know what happens or can happen as a result of prostate surgery, google it. It's not pretty but it beats the alternative. All I can say from personal experience is you never get back to 100%. It'll take him months to fell like he's returning to normal. One thing among many that happens as a result of surgery is your bladder drops since there is nothing there anymore to support it. urinary incontinence and urgency usually follows right after surgery and you have to do exercises to strengthen your muscles that control urine flow. This can take weeks or months, depending on the individual. A mans PSA (prostate specific antigen) should be 0 after surgery and thereafter. However, it is possible for surgery to miss some cancerous cells. These can remain basically dormant or so few as to be undetectable for years, thus the need to have psa blood work done for 5 years after surgery before you are really considered in remission. Even after that, it's a fact that after a person has had cancer once they have a much higher likelihood of contracting cancer again. Bottom line, you are never fully out of the woods.
I could go on and on about recuperating and recovery. Suffice it to say you can return to work in pretty short order, depending on how physical your job is, but you may never fully return to pre operation condition.

My son is at the basketball camp and JJ has yet to make an appearance. They told the kids he just had surgery, but may try to come by before camp is over on Thursday.

So several of you have sent me PM's on this topic and others stating that I should not post rumors and so on. These comments stuck me as strange as to me that is part and parcel of a message board. In fact the very nature of the beast so to speak. I have tried to be careful to report rumor as rumor and to seek more information from those of you who have better connections. Actually, that is pretty easy to do as I have virtually none. On June 23, one week ago, I started this thread asking for information after hearing rumors (pretty strong ones) that JJ's recovery was not going well. Guess what, the rumor I was hearing turned out to be, sadly enough, true. I would add that I don't believe my asking the question had any effect on his recovery and whither I asked for info on here or not, the rumor was still out there. I do hope this explains my original post and again for those of you who found it annoying I apologize. From my POV the big thing is I hope and pray Coach gets well ASAP.

From reading the article, I didn't get the impression that his recovery isn't going well. Instead, I got the impression that JJ needs to more patient and give himself time to recuperate. Big difference in my eyes.

Best wishes to Coach for a full recovery. Here's hoping everything goes well the rest of the summer, and he is up and running at full speed when school starts.

Just read the article. JJ was indeed overly ambitious. General anasthesia can take a week or so just to get out of your system, if not longer. Surgery is trauma to the body and takes weeks and weeks and weeks to recover from. Add in the fact you have to wear a catheter for several weeks, do keigles, take antibiotics, vicodan, walk slower, have a sore rectum etc etc, the idea of coming back to work and flying all around the country is laughable. JJ probably tried to push it and now he's realizing at 55 he aint what he used to be. He'll be fine, just needs to slow down and let his body recover. He coughs like crazy as we all know. That can present special problems after prostate surgery.

This is a very good article to update us on JJ's health. I also found the videos posted with the article to be interesting, especially the first one. It would appear (again the 1st video) that Coach does appreciate the good wishes and support he has been receiving. Still wishing him a good recovery as I am sure we all do.
