NASCAR Fans: Would you boycott over the CSA battle flag?
Saw a news report this morning that NASCAR is taking measures to ensure no flags make it into the stands. It appears that they are trying to scrub it from the sport completely. Given the makeup of the fan base, would the fans boycott the sport over the flag? IMHO, if you cherish the flag, this may be a great place to take a stand.

I don't know about a boycott but their Southern base will continue to decrease. The more they've tried to expand/ diversify NASCAR, the less interested their base has become.

It's getting play on the news this morning, but I see it's been floated a couple days ago.

An additional factor is cost. I used to go annually to the Southern 500 in Darlington. We would go in on Saturday am and watch both races from the infield. It cost $10 per vehicle and $50 per person. Now it is $200 per vehicle in a marked spot and $100 for both races. NASCAR a while back decided to cull out the poor white trash by raising the fees. It worked. The makeup of the infield and grandstands has changed dramatically in the past decade.

As for the boycott. Good luck. I expect to see a sea of battle flags in Daytona.

No they aren't. They are simply offering to exchange anyone's Confederate flag for an American flag. They aren't telling people they can't bring/wear Confederate flag apparel or fly a Confederate flag. There aren't many Confederate flags at NASCAR races to begin with... but this is going to backfire in a huge way. Whereas there were maybe 3 flying at Daytona last year, there will likely be 20x's that many this year.

The idea of "diversifying" NASCAR is pretty funny. I am pretty sure NASCAR is already hitting their fan sweet spot.

True but the ones that are there get full TV camera exposure.

If they outright ban any CSA flag, taking away our freedom of speech and expression, I will stop watching NASCAR all together. NASCAR wants to forget where they came from, problem with that is that NASCAR was founded by rebels of the man. Moonshine runners of the hills and Kentucky marijuana growers.

Honestly...If I was going to the race and had a battle flag lying around...Id exchange it. It is time that relic be left to museums.

It actually would be cool if lots of folks did voluntarily exchange their flags. I doubt that is going to happen though.

I've been to one NASCAR race in my life and that was 20+ years ago. So, no, if I did want to attend a race a flag in the infield would not make a difference in my decision to attend.

RE: NASCAR Fans: Would you boycott over the CSA battle flag?
To me, NASCAR is possibly where a stand for the flag can be taken. Maybe other businesses in the south if there is a large backlash over people trying to ban the flag. I'm curious if there are enough people that care at all, or if it's a sizable minority or if there is an actual majority who can make a difference. Boycotting the events themselves is part of it, but tuning out on TV and making that known could be highly effective.

Well, NASCAR won't ban the flag at its events. It will only go as far as to "encourage" fans not to, and even incentivize it. But NASCAR would be barking up the wrong tree and willfully doing irreparable damage to itself if it were to ever BAN the flag.

I would imagine a "Trade your Stars and Bars for a NASCAR flag" promotion would go over pretty well with most.....

NASCAR started dying out with restrictor plates and all makes using the same body templates.

Dumb idea, if they want to hand out American Flags or sell em at the event.

My wife makes a nice homemade sangria and has Perrier as the base..... It's surprisingly cheap at the grocery store versus what a restaurant would charges for eau gazéifiée
