According to his Maine bio, he played his college ball at URI and Div II in PA (briefly). Coached HS in Mass, Hawaii & CA. College coaching has been a season at UCLA & 7 at Maine.. Nothing against the hire, but not much in the way of connections to the mid-Atlantic.

So that makes it official I guess- like Withers in 2014, no holdovers from the prior staff. MH kept 2 I thought (Bowers at LB/Special Teams Coordinator & Powell at OL).

Another thing: on JMUsports.com, looking at past rosters, if you go back to any particular roster year, they have that current year's staff listed through their last season.
-MM & staff are shown through 2013, MM's last season.
-EW & staff are shown through 2015, EW's last season.
-MH & staff are only shown through 2017. For both 2018 and 2019's rosters it shows Cignetti & staff (as if they were the coaches for last season and next season). Would make sense if the 2019 roster wasn't up yet, but 2019 is.

RE: Official - New Football Assistant Coaches
Speaking of the 2019 roster, I assumed since were so few seniors last season (11) that it would be similar to 2017 when had 23 seniors. But for next season of 108 listed (early commit freshman have been added) I only counted 17 seniors (which I guess is about average or a little below average). So that is good news for 2020..

His primary recruiting area for Maine was Washington DC and Southern Maryland, so in that sense he does have recruiting connections to the mid-Atlantic area, which is a positive for us.

Any chance Bowers comes back as Special Teams Coordinator? Saw CC liked one of his tweets today.

Nope, looks like it will be Grant Cain from Mercer.

I agree. I didn’t realize Mercer was one of the better special teams units in the country. It’s an underrated part of winning football games with field position.

DL coach I believe. We had a coach he brought from Elon but he left to return to Elon for “personal reasons”.

It looks like we have that DL Coach. Madia reporting that JMU and HC3 is adding Andrew Jackson, Mississippi State defensive QC coach and 7th president of the US, as the final member of the coaching staff. Welcome to the school of the 4th prez, Coach Jackson!

Coach Jackson started coaching at LIU-Post, which I believe is D2 in 2012. He spent 2013-14 at Stony Brook as GA and Asst DL Coach, 2015-16 at Penn State as a defensive GA, and 2017 as Fordham's DL coach before going to the SEC. I believe this makes him the most inexperienced of the coaching staff, but he has a couple P5 stops under his belt already.

This makes sense as our DC also worked with defensive linemen at Maine. Good opportunity for him I'd think.

Coaching Staff is officially complete with the addition of Jackson and Cain:
https://jmusports.com/news/2019/1/3/cign...staff.aspx

Really like Jackson’s background, including time spent with the DL at Penn State. Both look like good hires. Official coaching positions will be published tomorrow for all the assistants.
