In my calculus of guessing what will happen based on who is saying it and whether it is status quo or change, I put the statement of Boren (Oklahoma President) as the most accurate statements. It is much less likely for a high ranking University official to come out in favor of change than it is for them to promote maintaining the status quo.

The conference commissioner or the TCU AD saying "maintain the status quo" is much more common, and such people will generally continue to say such things until 1 minute before the press conference announcing that Team X is joining Conference Y. Such statements are more often public relations white lies, so not much can be read into them either way.

However, when a high level official comes out an publically says "we want change" it is much more likely to happen. Any statement about changing the status quo is much less likely to be PR white lies, because if everything was fine they wouldn't be saying it. Statements challenging the status quo are kind of like saying the emperor has no clothes - every already knows it, but when stated verbally it leads to change.

I guess nothing too soon. But they're probably talking to some teams and going over things, and BYU is probably pawing at them a lot -- and would be the best addition, where they'd want to add one more anyway. I think the deregulation thing would be a temporary fix so they don't have to rush which they don't want to do.

My guess is within the next 3-5 years they'll have added 2 teams. I think they'll want to time it with having a B12 Network or something, as they'll want to do it for TV expansion reasons. Maybe have BYU + 3 AAC teams [Cinci, Memphis, UCF].

That is a very aggressive timeline.

Nothing is happening. For now.

Someone suggested Boren was putting up a trial balloon to see how fanbases reacted to the idea of expansion.

Maybe he really wants expansion to get more Big 12 connections on the CFP committee to get rid of the "psychological" disadvantage.

BYU boards were really quiet. Some mention, but not much. That would indicate no one there is hearing anything.

If Big 12 does expand, I don't see how they do it without BYU. They've got to be #11 in spite of all of their challenges.

Boren says the Big 12 needs to expand but it wasn't something that had to happen in the immediate future. Then two other AD's say expansion is not happening. But yet, you have a talking head from ESPN tweet that another talking head said the Big 12 is dissolving and Texas is headed to the ACC and OU to the SEC.

What I don't understand is why so many of you want to see the Big 12 go away? I get why some here want to see the Big 12 expand (i.e. UC, UCF, Memphis, etc). It's definitely the summertime.

He is just restating what Colin Cowherd said and Colin Cowherd was just stating his opinion.

As for expansion, I think the Big 12 is waiting to see if they can hold a championship game with 10. If not then they look at expansion.

College football does not need fewer P5 conferences, it needs more. There are plenty of other schools that need to be included. Having only 4 P5 conferences will shut out a lot of schools for a very long time.

The Big12 will NOT dissolve. People with jobs depend on its survival. It might be like the Big East/AAC with a completely new lineup, but it WILL exist.

Dissolving a conference means finding a home for ALL 10 present members. NCAA tourney credits are involved here, those that jump first will forfeit that money, and the "left-behinds" will need that money, so they'll wait on it, for the years necessary to get it. In the meantime, they'll invite new members to stay viable.

IF the big 12 loses texas, OU and KU either the big 12 or AAC will close up shop…just merge any leftovers into the other.

I don't understand all the love for Kansas.... They were about to get left the last time when Texas and Co. were flirting with the PAC. What has changed about the situation? Have they done much in basketball since then to change minds? I just don't get all the love for Kansas.

I think Kansas is one of those unique brands where their basketball has a large national following that would just as significant for TV as football is for others.

IDKS but based on reading these boards it would seem logical that with Texas and OU gone, BYU would be in and then Cincy makes the most sense. But if they go to 12, then it gets very interesting.

Times like this just glad that the Big XII passed on Louisville...enjoying the quiet that is the ACC...Now get that Network Up....
