RE: Chick-fil-a scores highest in customer satisfaction ranking/
A few months back my wife and I had to go to Columbia for some business and she wanted to try a food truck she had seen on one of the food channels. I was a little dubious until she showed me this
Collard greens and rice in a chicken wing? I was sold!
I pretty much had the same experience as Steve Harvey.

They hire better quality people and pay more than the other joints, that is why. I only go when traveling, but they are usually clean and have great customer service. Can't argue with that.

I like trying the local food trucks, too.
Never understood the obsession with chick fil a, butter and pickle juice is all I taste there...

They seem way too high. Last time I was there it took 45 minutes to get my food and I haven't been back. That was in the 70s. There were lots of stories at the time of them substituting horse meat. This was before the internet, so its possible the rumors were true.

Whatever is in their tacos is definitely questionable, but they are so damn good. Best drunk food.

In the early 80's, we'd go to 7-11 and get large beef & bean burritos. Microwave them for a couple minutes, and you're in drunk heaven at 2:00am.

Totally different form of franchisement which leads to slower overall expansion but far better quality of management. Basically, you don't operate as a franchisee, you operate as an owner-operator. One owner-operator to one store, almost no one owns more than one. The cost to open a franchise is actually really low (want to say less than $50k), but they vet you pretty damn thoroughly because you are essentially a long term manager more than an true owner. Means the you don't have the situations what you see with many burger kings or subways, where there are vastly different levels of quality from one franchise to the next. And with many of these locations owned by corporations which have large numbers of individual franchises, it's common for inept middle management to hire bad people and locations to go to sh*t quickly. In a Chik-Fil-A, the owner-operator only has one store. It's their baby. They can have other investments, but then again, the cost of franchisement is much lower leading to less selection of those who just have large sums to spend.
It's a weirdly corporate process to get locations to feel like personal stores, and it works. I wish their owner had different views but let's not act like he's not just going to die soon and and the company won't change. Plus, it's delicious.

I have heard that you cannot get a Chik-Fil-A franchise unless you have worked for the company at some point. I don't know how true that it but I know a few people who worked their as kids before college and such, and an operator in Florence, who say that.

Not sure what the exact criteria is, but I know they vet you pretty well. Some of it is pretty personal but I think the majority of it is along the lines of trying to find those people who are interested in opening a single store and taking pride in it, not opening that store to leverage enough capital to open a handful of Subways while leaving the management of the Chik-Fil-A to their Son-in-law who just lets the location go to sh*t.
