I think even a present-day John McCain (78 years old) would destroy Christie (52) in just about every type of physical challenge you could think up between the two.
Using Christie and the phrase better shape in the same sentence is an oxymoron.

For some reason NJ folks like arrogant, abrasive personalities. The rest of the country, not so much.
Northeasterners hate people who don't tell it straight. If you try to sugarcoat something, they'll get irate. They don't like anyone to waste their time. Just tell the truth as succinctly as possible and then move on.
And most of all ... don't try to B.S. them.
Lol. Dude. You've never had a yankee try to slick talk you. Come on man. I really lol'ed
There's always exceptions. Coaches Calipari and Patino come to mind. Both full of sh-t.
But seriously, I had a job talking to people all over the country. It was the phone calls to and from NY/NJ that were the toughest. If I didn't have my crap together, they'd chew me up. I had to know the situation in every detail, frontward and backward, before talking with those people.
All of NJ/NY is not the same. There's Northern Jersey/ NY 5 borough's area which basically have the same attitude and characteristics.
This area you must be tough and fast with your thoughts. More immigrants come through this channel than any place in the world through the past 150 years. The original melting pot of America. I can throw a stone and hit a first/second/third generation immigrant from over 10 nationalities. On my street of 22 homes, neighbors consist of 3rd Generation Irish, 85 yr old German lady, 1st Generation Polish, 2nd Generation Italian, 3rd Generation Italian, 2nd Gen Czech, 1st Gen Russian, 2nd Gen Arab, Puerto Rican and Haitian couple, El Salvador couple, 1st Gen Japanese married to Irish guy, and a white trash neighbor who's parents buy him and his family all their home improvements.
The sales reps I've had to deal with from the Northeast (NY and NJ anyway) are easily the rudest, compared to those in other areas of the country.

I don't doubt that one bit. The citizens of Northern NJ/NYC are tough and not pampered. Homes are run down and you can't sit in a trailer on a half acre for $400.00 a month utilities included. Parents here have to hustle to get a job and make a buck. Majority come from recent immigrant backgrounds too.
Don't get me wrong, I love the slower paced life in the south and Midwest. I actually prefer it. I'm often jealous because I had a taste of it living in the south while at college and Marine Corps.

RE: Chris Christie announces ...
I don't think they are any more shrewed, they just have to live their lives without trusting anyone. Nobody's word means anything and the is no such thing as a handshake deal or gentlemans agreement. You are right though, life around the poverty line is much easier when you live in a trailer for $400 per month than in North Jersey and being able to make ends meet on a $10 per hour job contributes to a slower pace. I am kind of in the middle in a small Virginia city, but if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't have joined the rat race. I am confident that I could have met a comparable lifestyle in the country with a lot less stress.

I'd even take Rubio-Kasich if I had to.

IF Bush, Walker, Paul, Cruz, Rubio, Jindal, Trump, Carson, Huckabee, Perry, and Fiorina all drop out, Christie might become the frontrunner.

When Christie is the only person on stage that can shut Trump up, you'll all jump on the bandwagon.

Christie wouldn't even be able to get the job to manage the front desk of one of Trumps hotels. He wouldn't get the job to handle Trumps yacht husbandry. He will not shut him up. Trump would beat him down to the size of a boy twerker in a pride parade.

Trump's a clown. Christie will dress him up and make sure that everybody knows who is running this circus.
