Hate to see this. After our previous president's indifference to athletics caused a decade of stagnation in athletics, I really learned to appreciate this guy and I hate to see him leave.

You can't underestimate the importance of having a president who is supportive of athletics in advancing athletics. The AD is important but he's just a yes man if the president doesn't care.

Say what? This is shocking news. GRU will probably start football soon and will instantly be a candidate for the Sunbelt.

I know you are kidding but I wouldn't be surprised if they make a move to Division 1 very soon. After that an FCS team could be in their future but probably not for many years.

Unless a group of million MCG alum donate to build the stadium, there is no where in Augusta to house a proper FCS stadium. Richmond County is so broke, there is no way the local gov't can pay for the stadium.

Most ASU/MCG/GHSU alums that actually know what sports are are big UGA fans. I seriously seriously doubt there will be a push for D1 football.

I don't know man. I watched their spring game. Their offensive linemen were skin and bones

Their coaches really work the graveyard shift trying to get more recruits.

I heard that, but I'm not sure if the story has any legs.

Maybe not football but their is already big push for Division 1 in the Olympic sports so I have a feeling that will now happen.

He is a wonderful guy, a good friend and my sometimes quail hunting partner(how many university presidents do you know that can walk in behind a brace of pointing bird dogs and knock down a double on the covey rise?). Eagle Nation owes a lot to this man for his vision to balance academics and athletics. During his tenure, both are better at GS. Word is that the guy he is replacing was making a cool $1 million a year. Maybe we can get Dr. Keel to hand pick his successor....

Georgia Southern president leaves to take a new job
I just PRAY there isn't a "threes" situation: prez, FB coach, AD in 2015!

NO LOVING GOD ALLOWS THAT TO HAPPEN TO ERK'S EAGLES!

well, if, and for the love of god I hope it doesn't happen, that would happen, on the bright side is now because of our recent move and success, and the overall growth of the university, I think we are a much more attractive university than we were when Keel first stepped onto campus. The school has been growing like crazy and Keel did a lot to improve our academic side, and we will be an attractive stop for other Presidents. Athletically, TK has done a ton for us as well (obviously), and because of his work, we are a much more attractive athletic department than we were 5 years ago. If we have another good season in football and basketball, and improve in baseball, I think we will have a good list of candidates for AD if he were to leave. And I think he will, since he has already applied to other jobs in the past.

Huge loss, but the most important job to get us to fbs is done so at least we have that behind us. Congrats to Dr Keel and thanks for everything you did.

I guess it's kinda like trying to keep a good head coach at our schools.

Good luck in finding a replacement.

word on the street is he will be the highest paid public school president in the state.

Doubtful since the Big 3 just got raises

Still likely.

He'll get a ton of bank, and not just as the president of GRU.
