McCain was the media darling. The journalists pet Republican because he went against the Republic grain a lot.

But when he won the nomination, he became an evil buffoon....just the same as every Republican gets portrayed.

This

It isn't really worth your time to listen to people who have no interest in voting for any of these people anyways.

McCain in 2008 was a different candidate than in 2000 with different policies.

McCain was running on the Iraq War, starting one with Iran, and arguing that Bush's economic policies didn't favor the wealthy enough in 2008. I'm surprised he didn't lose by an even bigger margin. And then Sarah Palin.

McCain was fine with the press during the primaries. He only turned evil bufoon after he was the nominee.

This.It wasn't the same McCain, and if anything is shows how toxic the process is. And choosing Palin as his VP just shows that further.

I also remember when Cheney was applauded as a great SecDef nominee. He was portrayed as a nice bumbler. The as a great war leader.

Then he became VP nominee and became evil incarnate.

Same McCain, just different reporting.

Nope, the same McCain would have won the nomination in 2000.

If NcCain picks Liberman he wins. The Caribou Barbie was his undoing. He was leading the race in early September late August. Once people got to know Paln it put McCains judgement into question.

You can fool yourselves if you want. Every Republican nominee is going to get the same treatment in the press regardless. So being toxic in the primaries should not be a concern.

No, the economy collapsed. It would have been hard for any Republican to win in 2008.

The media doesn't make the candidates speak out against abortion or evolution or global warming or gay marriage. You can continue to live in this fantasy world where it's just the big bad media, but the facts are, it's hard to blame the media when every republican candidate is tripping over themselves to show how socially conservative they are in order to get nominated.

McCain was just an awful candidate. Worst major party candidate in my memory, which includes Michael Dukacus and Bob Dole. I am sure Mondale was worse, but I was only 5 years old.

The media doesn't make the candidates speak out against abortion

God forbid speaking out against resentfully killing fetuses due to your own ill behavior. What womyn-hating jerks!

No, it just doesn't play well nationally, and acting like the media is the reason for this is downright stupid.

Not true (imo). Her supporters certainly don't, but as evidenced by the 2008 election, that isn't even most Democrats.... She also RAMPANTLY invigorates the right to come out against her. The Christian right would vote for a pro-abortion Republican if they were running against her. On the contrary, I think there's a portion of Democrats tired of defending her... who would be less inclined to actively work for her.

There's always going to be a 'pile on' effect when you have one front runner and multiple other candidates fighting to get attention.

Elections aren't up/down votes on approval of a particular candidate, but rather a choice between TWO people. HRC will take her lumps until the GOP field gells around a candidate. And then she will proceed to eat that candidate for lunch.

Whoever the GOP puts up will motivate the Democrats.

Okay Chief

Your side made the same argument in 2007 and Hillary didn't even get the nomination from 'the left'. Hillary was polling around 40% at this time and Obama closer to 15-20. It wasn't until 2/08 that Obama started winning those polls, and it was still close. Hillary's popularity really never changed... with everyone else in the party essentially coalescing around 'any Democrat' other than Hillary. That's why I say she doesn't really motivate her own party... other than her 40%.

I find it hilarious that you say people don't want an angry person as President, but that Hillary will somehow win anyway. She's not exactly 'warm and fuzzy' like Bill was.

And Hillary isn't going to bring out the young and minority vote like Obama or even Bill could. Not on ANY planet.

It seems that you're deciding 'what people want' based on what YOU want, and not the other way around.

I'm not arguing that a Republican will win. Far too many unknowns at this point... I'm just arguing that Hillary isn't a shoe-in.... and actually (imo) might make it MORE, not less likely that a Republican wins.

Since you probably wouldn't vote for anyone without D next to their name, your opinion isn't really very pertinent.

Your post is so slanted. Anti-immigrant? Are you an idiot? Anyone with an IQ above 10 knows Republicans are PRO-immigrant. They are against illegal immigration. Big difference.

Anti-poor? Republicans are for expanding the economy, giving the poor their best opportunity to escape poverty. Republicans are against government handouts, which trap the poor in generations of poverty.

Try to read something beyond the New York Times.

I read, see, and listen to everything I can ... Fox, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, Wall Street Journal, The Dallas Morning News (which is frustratingly liberal), The Hartford Courant, etc.

I used to read US News & World Report, USA Today, and The New York Times, but I don't anymore.
