Must be news to them.
Of course, you realize the athletic teams that Memphis DOES have (like cross country) participate in regional meets. The long trip, to the AAC championship was in Stoors...and I am willing to bet they flew.
In looking at the other olympic sports...most all of the matches are in Memphis or in surrounding areas. Not home and home stuff (rifle, tennis etc.)
And due to the small size of some of the teams, I would again be willing to bet that they fly to the "far away" games. If someone can verify otherwise, I'll be willing to listen.
I bet this guy knows the answers...
At first I thought it was a really old and tired looking Ed McMahon.
Simplest thing is just for the OP to send the list of miles to the Big 12 powers that be and wait about 3 hours for them to say, "damn we never even considered this" and invite Memphis post haste.
It's silly keeping such valuable information squirreled away here.
Now you know that schools don't only play football and basketball. Not a bad start for someone like you. Would you like me to provide a link to one of the 3 million articles written about how inconvenient it is for the rest of the conference to travel to West Virginia? I'm willing to try and help you in any little way I can.
Hey, if anyone knows about being a long way removed from what is really going on, it's you. So I will gladly defer to your expertise.
Oh, and send that email to the Big 12 guy.

I wish I was in Memphis. I guess if I lived in Memphis I would think that a two game road trip to Memphis and Cincinnati involves a lot more mileage and is a lot more expensive than a 2 game road trip to Cincinnati and UCF. It's silly keeping such valuable information squirreled away here. Thank you for your "unique" perspective on things.

RE: Big 12 Expansion - Fun Travel Facts
Just a recap on the 2 lessons that you've learned today. Orlando is much farther away from all the Big 12 schools than Memphis...every single one, and all schools do NOT only play football and basketball. They all play between 16-20 different sports.
Let me know if you need any help with anything else. In the meantime, keep up the good work with the cool gifs.

Regardless of whether geography is a concern now, and if so, whether it's a primary concern, that's why the Big 12 wasn't too concerned with it when they added West Virginia.
And they thought Lville was coming with them.
