While it doesn't go that deep into the question, it at least gets the question of college budgeting & maybe talk of reigning in all the wild arms race w/ all the money being raked in by P5 teams by sending it to the academic side started (yes I know I'm dreaming on that happening in this universe)

According to that article, the U of Oregon Athletic Department receives $98 million and spends that much on athletics - to the penny.
The last published reports on Bama and Auburn have their ADs taking in $150 million and $115 million annually respectively. As in Oregon, they are not required to share a dime of that money with their academic university. The Bama AD has stated that when the AD has a surplus (self determined) it gives it to the General Scholarship Fund for UA. To date, I have never seen any specific figures on this transfer published in any newspaper.
