2015 HMB shows
UNLV - Main Show...no idea what theme this is yet.

Murry St - Fall Out Boy show
This is also the Band Day

@ OSU - "Main Show" - but the trip is listed as possible

Ball St - One hit wonder show

EMU - Elvis Show

WMU - Fall Out Boy Show

Ohio - Nothing listed yet...I think they are assuming it will be too cold or there may be some other half time entertainment?

RE: 2015 HMB shows
Asking once again: On Band Day, have ALL the bands close the show by playing the NIU fight song.

Not the case. Only the HMB has been playing it. The others just march off.

Not only is playing the fight song most likely fun for the musicians, it might recruit a few who enjoyed the experience of playing in a college stadium with that college's band. Plus, it's that much LOUDER.

Almost would have wanted band day for the opener to assure a nearly full stadium on national tv. The student turnout will be really interesting for the opener. Maybe some will come back or stick around for it

that's mostly about logistics. The band has a finite amount of time on the field and if the high schools are worrying about playing when they need to book it off the field, it will slow the process down a lot. So HMB handles the playing so the high schools can focus on the cluster of getting off the field.

I'de rather hear the whole group doing the fight song than one more Fall Out Boy song...and My wife and I like Fall Out Boy.

with that many high school kids from different bands marching, none have the same marching level, so adding playing to it is something that can't be resolved in 1 hour of group rehearsal when you have to go over the music as well. I understand your point but it's done in the easiest way possible for all parties involved.

Can they just not march during the fight song then?

they need to march early just to start getting out of the way, keep them out of the line of fire when the football team comes back out and takes the sideline back over.

Probably not a good look if a LB plows over some 15 year old flute player

RE: 2015 HMB shows
I get the idea of having all the bands play HFS and come of the field but that would do a few things;

1) Huge mob rush off the field - not safe - We do the three songs because educationally it pushes the students that come to NIU and gives them access to more music. I think it's a great experience because then it isn't some chintzy "oh hey look its cute we'll play 5 minutes of music and come off". It gives the kids the idea that the the the whole show.

2) It's hard enough to keep the rehearsed music together. Imagine getting those kids to play HFS together on next to no rehearsal and then getting them off the field.

I totally get the want to have those kids experience the HFS on the field, but they do that sometimes in the stands with us and it just isn't feasible (not to mention I think it makes it more worthwhile for the students come perform 3 different songs, aka greater access to musical literature, which is educational)
