Make your church all about discrimination for all I care. It won't bring anyone to Christ but will rather continue to repel millions.
#biggerpicture
God's word isn't discrimination....
The idea isn't to water down His word to "bring in" everyone. The idea is to teach God's word.
You probably have a "Coexist" bumper sticker on your car too. Let's just keep changing everything until every under represented class is happy.

Why am I not surprised that conservatives view coexisting as a bad thing?

I don't have a "Coexist" bumper sticker on my car. I don't put bumper stickers on my prius (just kidding - I drive a big ole' gas guzzler). But why would that offend you?
All the coexist sticker promotes is the idea that we should live together in harmony.
You are free to think that we're destroying America. The Phelps Clan thinks so too. You're also free to think that Christianity is somehow 'more protected' than other religions or over those that don't follow any religion.
---
I was simply pointing out that if evangelism is your main goal...you're doing a really sh*tty job of it. Fastest growing religious choice..'decline to state/none'. You can't spread the 'good news' if people see so much bias and hypocrisy that you have no credibility btw.

I wonder if gay people have a physiological desire for approval and validation of their moral decisions. If the supreme court says we are ok then we are ok, right. We need to crush everyone that says we aren't all right. No matter that we can get married in 98 counties all 100 must comply.
It's not about tolerance. It's not even about acceptance. It's a desire for affirmation. Absolute, unquestioning affirmation. If you disagree you are a bigot, a clown, stupid, lack enlightenment, provencial, a Phillistine.
I have no problem with gay marriage in the slightest. I do have a problem bring required to accept a moral or philosophical absolute where any dissenter is immediately labeled with any number of pejoratives.
Compliance with the Supreme Court is not optional. Its mandatory in 100 percent of the counties.
You guys could have compromised at any point in the past.
1) When we asked for civil unions, the religious right opposed them every time
2) When we asked for accommodations to remove obvious unfairness in our immigration laws, in discrimination laws, and in our taxation laws, the religious right opposed them every time.
3) When we asked for our government to provide us with equal pay/benefits for equal work, the religious right opposed us every time.
And while we're on the topic of pejoratives and name calling....
According to the religious right and much of the GOP, I'm personally the moral equivalent of a child molester or a drug addict or someone who commits beastiality. And personally responsible for every disaster or bad thing that has ever happened in this country.
When you make people go to the Supreme Court because you viciously opposed every accommodation - no matter how small - you lose the ability to try and renegotiate after you lose.
And if you try to make the free exercise of your religious expression no more than than the exercise of discrimination against us in the name of your religion, then how do you expect us to respond towards your religious expression?
Whoa whoa. You guys. I was never opposed to gay marriage. Lol. I am opposed to the judicial branch essentially making laws. I am opposed to one southern district court judge making a ruling that affects every elected official in the state. You know that has some scary implications, you just agree with the ruling this time. I am opposed to stunts like the white house in rainbow lights. I am pretty liberal on social issues. I am a moderate. I don't like the government fricking around in people's personal lives...gay, straight whatever. There are more moderates, imo, than there are extremists on either side.
Heck for that matter alabama is a common law state anyway, you don't even need a marriage license to be married either way.
My marriages have been train wrecks lol. Enjoy your victory, you now have the legal right to get screwed over in a divorce like the heteros. Have fun.

What law did they create? What is the name of this law? Because last I looked the SCOTUS simply struck down these laws (ie State bans on gay marriage)
That's not making law, it's invalidating laws via the 14th amendment to the U.S. Constitution. (at least if I'm reading Kennedy's opinion correctly)
EDIT: I found Scalias use of 'jiggery-pokery' in his dissent most amusing
2nd EDIT: I also found it amusing Eddie Murphy told that joke about gay folks while wearing a red leather, skin tight, jumpsuit that looked like Freddie Mercury designed it.

RE: Nullification Thread
State's rights are a thing. A very important check and balance on the Federal government intended for State's to interpose between the Federal government and their citizens if their liberties are threatened (note...its not to allow a state to threaten them).
But nullification is not a thing and never has been. If there is nullification, there is no real union and no law.

Semantics. You know exactly when and why the 14th amendment was written. Nullification is a good title for this thread because the supreme court essentially nullified laws created by the legislative branch of government. The dissenting views express this better than I can on a message board. You are cool with it this time because it supports your cause. The left raised hell about it being applied to bush v gore. The 14th can be misused by the supreme court.
"T]he decision in the Florida election case may be ranked as the single most corrupt decision in Supreme Court history, because it is the only one that I know of where the majority justices decided as they did because of the personal identity and political affiliation of the litigants. This was cheating, and a violation of the judicial oath." Dershowitz
Hey you got what you wanted out of it this time though. You are a smart guy and you know exactly what I mean. You can quit selling it the deal has been sealed.
Scalias dig was over the top
And yes Murphys suit was ridiculous and I actually don't remember the gay joke but I sure the hell remember half your shite, half
Peace I'm done with this

The moderates aren't anywhere to be found in Alabama's GOP. They're all terrified of the next GOP Primary. And no matter how extreme the candidate that comes out of that primary is...they get elected in the general.
We had to go to the courts. And we'll have to keep going to them.

I view the Coexist stickers the same way I do our education system today. 2+2=4. The end. Today if you want to say 2+2 = 5 or 2+2 = 3 you aren't wrong, you were close. Good job. Everyone is right and everyone gets a gold star.
Where is the hypocrisy? I understand your bias statement, but don't get the hypocrisy. I stated my belief about gay marriage (that is what this thread was about), but I also feel the same way about straight people getting divorced. I don't hate either group but I feel their actions aren't right and I should not be force to agree with either.
