Depending on the contract, most included the value of all "goods, equipment/merchandise & services" given by Nike (or other sponsors) to the Univ as part of the total value of the contract.

Some contracts mention specific cash amounts in addition to goods/equipment/services and merchandise.

Example: Cincinnati's old deal with Adidas (just switched to Under Armour):

UC had an annual $1.53 Million deal with Adidas but it was broken up in this way:
$1.05 million in equipment and apparel allowance for their sports teams
$525,000 in cash

Details of UC's new deal with Under Armour were announced as a huge $47 Million deal...but the breakdown is as follows (hint: most of it is not in cash, like so many other contracts)

The University of Cincinnati got a big raise when it jumped from Adidas to Under Armour, the latest sign that the battle to outfit top college teams has never been more fierce.

The university will get $1 million in cash and $3.5 million in equipment in the first year of the deal, according to a letter of intent obtained by the Business Journal through a public records request.

The 10-year deal includes more than $11 million in cash and more than $36 million in equipment, making it worth in excess of $47 million.

Amazing since in their Adidas contract there was a clause that said Michigan would always be the highest paid Adidas school in the country.
