Football Offseason Therapy
All-time great ACC football, pre-CCG expansion.

1998 #6 Virginia at #25 Georgia Tech

This game marks the beginning of the end of the George Welsh era, and the beginning of the George O'Leary era.

See:
- With the game on the line, George Welsh just calmly ask his kicker "you hit this?" and go with the answer.
- Early George O'Leary (GT HC)
- Early Ralph Friedgen (GT OC)
- Early Randy Edsall (GT DC)
- Early Ted Roof (GT LB C)
- Hall of Famer Joe Hamilton (GT QB)
- Early George Godsey (GT QB, previously Tom Brady's QB coach, now the Texans OC)
- Early Ron Cherry (Well ... you know ....)
- Future NFL staples all over the place ... Charlie Rogers, Dez White, Travares Tillman, Anthony Poindexter, Aaron Brooks
- A NCAA record set that still stands today
- What may still be (?) the greatest comeback in ACC history

RE: Football Offseason Therapy
Good game. I prefer the 1990 GT/UVa game myself.

'98 was a decent season: 3-team race (GT, FSU, UVa). FSU's lone ACC loss was @ NC State. Of course the Wolfpack couldn't handle success. Clemson was awful that year. No other team was noteworthy. VT was having a good/not great season in the Big East. Syracuse went to the Orange Bowl but lost to Florida.

Of course, the opener that year was a taste of things to come: "the Eagles went down to Georgia, looking for a game to steal..." and did.

At least y'all beat the Boodawgs that year!

My offseason football therapy is to occasionally watch last year's Music City Bowl where ND beat LSU 31-28.

That gives me a recent football game fix for a short while. How many days left? 68?

I can see why that one might be particularly satisfying for you! 04-cheers

So when are you going to watch the Northwestern game again? 05-stirthepot

LOL. Yeah, I'd try to block out that game too if I were a Notre Dame fan...

Here's a deal: you can erase the Northwestern game if the Hokies can erase that game which was allegedly played at Wake Forest by players wearing VT uniforms...

I would find the Louisville v ND game therapeutic.
