Never said most of it was edifying. Heck most of it is probably dance music.

But hip hop has always been a place for culturally/politically aware music. Now if you don't recognize it, it's not their fault. It's like the people who say that the NBA is a league of thugs. Reputations are hard to shake and some people are just going to think what they think.

I acknowledge that as fact. Let's not though try and make a case that these people are musicians. Eric Clapton is a musician.

People say that like rappers are trying to be Eric Clapton. It's a genre, but part of the reason it's around is because Clapton isn't for everyone. That like saying hockey's bad because they can't dunk like Michael Jordan. Sure, they're both sports, but geared for different things.

Now unless it's strictly dance music, the lyrics and delivery are the highest priority to a rapper, music is only added somewhere toward the middle of production. More than strictly musicians, rappers are lyricists. But, a lot of what makes Southern Hip Hop what it is, is that they actually are musicians with a gospel background at some point. The Roots, though not southern, are musicians. Outkast and UGK were kings of experimental.

Look, I'm not trying to change opinions, but I do want people to result to something higher than folk knowledge here.

It is short sighted to claim one music is better, or more legitimate than another. I'm not real big on hip hop but that doesn't mean it is bad, just not something I like. There was a great jazz musician back in the 40s I think. I can't remember which one it was, but he use to infuriate some of his more snobbish fellow musicians when they would go somewhere with a jukebox. He would play country songs all the time. A jazz musician that plays all that complex improvised music enjoying three cords and a steel guitar. He said their were only two types of music, good music and bad music.

I found it. It was Charlie Parker. He, said, "listen, listen to the stories" and added that, "if you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn."

NASCAR having a flag exchange program this weekend -- swap a rebel flag for a US flag. They said they wont ban the Confederate flag from the racetrack as of now, but they are looking into that possibility for future races. They're between a rock and hard place now. Keep it and face sponsorship losses or ban it and lose a whole bunch of fans who buy tickets, souvenirs, etc

With as many fans as they have driven off by various moves over the years there aren't many tracks that can afford to lose many more. They've even reduced capacity at tracks like Talladega in recent years.

Well, the flag exchange program is off to a roaring success-- ESPN reports that as of 3pm this afternoon, a grand total of 0 Confederate flags have been traded in.

I just wish this race was in Talladega this weekend. There will be a bunch in Daytona, but would probably have a few hundred flying at Talladega.

would easily be more than that....

hell, the floodlights shining at the creek would yield that number in the background as the ta-tas were paraded with skynyrd blarin' (you'd have to have gone there back in the day to get that one)

the cameras won't come close to showing the confederate flags that are actually represented this weekend.....their agenda will be to 'avoid at all cost'

regardless, only a puss would trade the cf for the stars and stripes.....

ain't gonna happen this weekend.....

is ironic when you think about it......

Who are you tell others they CAN'T fly that flag? Censorship is still censorship. Something you and Dale Jr should, but refuse, to recognize.

sometimes the implied generates a scarlet letter that only gets mailed to some....

regardless of why someone would choose to fly a cf, it's fairly obvious that they will be labeled as racist....the media demagogues have spoken....let it be written, let it be done

It is true that when you fly a particular flag, others may form an opinion of you, but that is also THEIR right.
