My Take on the Last Week
I can't recall a week in my lifetime with more hate and ignorance on both sides of the spectrum.

I sometimes sit and think what this country will look like when my kids are my age. I am truly concerned for my children.

Compromise is something that is lost on the American public. Supreme Court case outcomes have become like a bad NBA game...which is every one. Loving and caring for those who might disagree is nonexistent.
We are devoid of leaders. We have two parties who are both out to divide us.

Leaders dont take tragedies and turn them into a political spectacle. Leaders look at all options when tackling the largest and most diverse healthcare system in the world. Leaders convene voices from across the spectrum to figure out how we can carefully reconcile the ugly part of our countries past without knee jerk reactions. Leaders should have worked to keep government out of the marriage business. Leaders should look at every American the same and not elevate or take for granted any single color or class.
This country is in need of leaders who will take everyone with varying opinions and join them together, not drive them apart.

I'm sick of Republicans and I'm sick of Democrats. I'm sick of childish behavior from both sides, like life is some childish game. Grow up, be adults. Talk to each other and find middle ground. This goes for politicians and everyday red blooded Americans.

I'm a Christian and I might not necessarily agree with gay marriage but I'll still love and care for those who do agree with it and are happy for what occurred today. I'll treat them the same as I would have yesterday or the day before. Government laid the ground work for this division. True leaders would have found common ground long ago on issues like this to join us together as a nation.

Hang the punk in Charleston......tomorrow. He doesn't represent "the South" he represents evil, he took the lives of 9 beautiful human beings and should pay with his life. Don't defile the memory of those people by pressing for gun control or the removal of United States history. Don't be so arrogant as a southerner to hang on to a hijacked symbol but also don't be so arrogant as a northerner or outsider to judge those who take pride in what shaped the South...good and bad.

Don't actually act like you know something about Obamacare or health care if you don't live it everday. Healthcare in such a diverse and large population is highly complicated and all options should be on the table. Obamacare addressed about 10% of the problem and looked at even less options. But hey, if you want to root and cheer for a supposed SCOTUS win...have at it, you just look foolish doing so. Health Insurance does not equal health care. Crappy health care legislation has been passed under both Republicans and Democrats. We had options and coverage already in place for the poor, disabled, children, and the elderly. The people who fell in the gap without insurance was statistically small and common sense measures could have been put in place to offer some assistance. But alas, that doesn't sound dramatic enough to convince the American people to turn over the best healthcare system in the world to a government who cant get a basic URL up and running.

The people who are being elected to power are working together to drive a wedge between each and every one of us. Every day they take a whack at the wedge, driving it deeper.
I'm not innocent of divisiveness and

I've had my moments but every single one of us needs to wake up and try and preserve what's left of this great country. Give and take. Compromise but don't be pushed over. Love and respect those who have differing opinions. Christians should actually be Christians and not make enemies of non Christians, dont act like you are somehow better or holier. Lead, don't follow.
Don't be blinded by political speak and empty words from those in office.... from both sides of the aisle.

We can all do better, we deserve better, our children deserve better. We must do better or this country is gone already.

the 60's struggle with civil rights and war (Vietnam) was far more violent than today...I think we (America) learned from those experiences...so will our future generations...

The leaders we have today are the direct products of the 1960s i.e. baby boomers = free love, drugs, communes, irresponsible sex, etc.
I can't wait until the baby boomers all retire and let the next generation take the wheel and right the ship.

RE: My Take on the Last Week
It's the culture wars. Left vs. Right. There is no common ground like there was 50 years ago. IMHO, the right has leaned slightly more to the right since then, but the left has gone completely off the American political chart.

When one side wants to *destroy* your America and remake it to their liking, it's hard to find compromise.

Good post Max,

However, compromise actually took place 15 years ago regarding the Flag in SC. Just so happens , opportunists and incrementalism of the Left, have moved the goal posts regarding this particular issue in your post.

Guys, the outrage over Charleston was either going to take the form of demands to remove Confederate symbols or demands to curtail unrestricted gun access by persons like Mr Roof....

Of course, the politicians went for the flag....its the path of least resistance.

I take it like this. This is probably one of the first times in American history where so many big things have happened without a LOT of people dying in the process.

RE: My Take on the Last Week
People need to wake up, drop the "political game," and start doing what is right for our country. Instead of endless bickering and nonsense, working on compromises and focusing on the important issues. More time and thought has been given to the SCOTUS ruling on gay marriage than anything else, and may continue to be so for a while, esp. by those on the right since the left will probably just celebrate and eventually say OK next issue. Instead we have to think about Islamic extremism. Did the nation just miss the attack in Tunisia that left dozens dead? Tunisia is one of the most democratic and advanced Arab states and they are still struggling with extremism and terrorism. Same thing in France, tho their immigration policies haven't done much good. We have to put these issues that really challenge our nation's foundation at the forefront of the fight, not gay marriage. Let it be, move on, and accept that there are bigger fish to fry.

Backwards. Democrats are keen to avoid compromising, but the GOP are the ones who say No to all the proposals made by the administration.
