Objectively, this is the correct answer. Realistically, how many people will actually go for an incestuous relationship? For virtually everyone on this board, (gay or straight) I bet no one has the urge to have sex with their siblings, cousins or parents.

Curiously though, how did Adam and Eve propagate the species? Or more importantly, who did Seth and Cain have sex with to have their own offspring?

Dude, you have NO IDEA!!!! I had 2 cousins, one on my mom's side, and one on my dad's side, and they were FREAKING HOT!!!!! Now, sisters???? No, That would just be too creepy. I had no siblings anyway.

I'm gonna come down on the Libertarian side of this one. Not my business. Just don't ask me or my church to sanctify it.

Unless you're following the exact dictate of a particular Christian Religion and can't think on your own (or study more in depth) you probably realize Adam and Eve are a representative story because the masses were illiterate and uneducated.

People that still believe this to be straightforward fact, in 2015, boggle my mind.

We better get used to siblings marrying and polygamy ... "consenting adults".

How many people in this thread who think incest is the next taboo to be broken on the marriage front also believe in a literal Adam and Eve?

I don't see any big rush for brothers and sisters to be married. Maybe just so few freaks.

Polygamy, on the other hand, is going to be a big issue at some point.

Id submit that is anything but lazy thinking. It may be hyperbolic to an extent..but not lazy. Lazy would be not being able to see that this might now happen occasionally.

Incest makes me sick inside. Even if you find a relative hot, you don't go down that road...

This conversation is completely different than the one about gays.

Why? The liberal argument is that consenting adults shouldn't be restricted from loving/marrying whomever they want. Why draw the line at incest? That's bigotry.

No, the argument is that there is no compelling state interest in limiting all homosexuals from marriage simply because they have matching parts. The argument that incest is damaging to society and families would be far more compelling and likely backed with data than one concerning homosexuals.

That being said, I couldn't really care less if they legalized incestuous marriage or not.

Does it say somewhere in the constitution that state laws have to have a compelling state interest? Hell, most of them don't.

The Constitution doesn't matter one bit to liberals, or the Supreme Court.

Does that make you feel less marginalized? Because I bet you feel pretty marginalized.

It reduces the entire argument for gay marriage to a simpleton idea of "consenting adults" and nothing more. Then assumes there is any sort of precedent where gay marriage legalization has lead in some capacity or another to siblings or polygamy being legalized.

Already been shown to be false in this very thread.

Lazy is as lazy chooses to be.

Only one country with gay marriage has the US legal system, which ruled self-identifying traits are protected under the 14th amendment. The precedent has been set. We also have a much larger and better funded polygamist culture than any other in the Western world. If I were them, I'd sue. There is no reason to deny them.

What other argument is there for gay marriage other than they are consenting adults freely exercising their human rights? Surely that is the Constitutional basis of the ruling; and would support other "consenting adults" also exercising their Constitutional right to unite in whatever emotional and legal unions that they aspire to. Is there something legally unique about gay marriage that makes it more worthy of Constitutional recognition as a human right than any other form of marriage outside of one man-one woman?

(06-30-2015 10:08 AM)JDTulane Wrote:  Then assumes there is any sort of precedent where gay marriage legalization has lead in some capacity or another to siblings or polygamy being legalized.

Is this case not the precedence that consenting adult humans can form any type of emotional and legal union they desire? The arguments that polygamy are harmful to society or the individual were the exact same ones people used to previously make misogyny and homosexual marriage illegal. The same arguments will also work against it. A huge portion of the electorate still views homosexuality as abhorrent behavior; but the Supreme Court has just ruled that that alone is not enough to stop consenting adults from exercising their right to marry whom they want.

You're just spouting sentences with zero facts to back them up. Saying we have the largest culture? We're the most populated country. That doesn't mean we're greater in proportion.
