that sounds terrible. but you let that happen and i don't feel sorry for you

I'm just saying why I post here, not looking for sympathy, but I'm not sure how I "let that happen"? I'm a care giver for my disabled wife.

and there's that. my bad. i was generalizing the workforce, i.e. my job is my life

To destroy some folks' self-perceived intellect. I often argue points with which I don't even agree.

Pretty much your go to post.
1) Wow just wow
2) Why do you hate.........................?

Exactly. Asking someone why requires people to use higher order thinking skills and thus forces them to think about why they believe what they believe. I'm a teacher so making people learn is second nature for me.

Asking stupid questions only gets people thinking what a idiot.

Consequently, arguing with an idiot is like arguing with a pig, you both get dirty, but the pig likes it.

In all honesty, I enjoy engaging with people and challenging political and religious ideas, including my own. More than anything, I feel it better firms up what I believe and why I believe it. This forum offers me a chance to somewhat put to the test my opinions and points of view on a variety of issues.

Good question. I'm starting to wonder myself why I do. I used to think this was a place where it was possible to have reasonably intelligent discussions of issues among those with varying viewpoints. It's not that, hasn't been in quite some time, maybe it never was.

But you didn't just answer the question. You felt the need to question the veracity of someone else's response.

He didn't include an "please limit your response to only answering the question".

And I didn't question the veracity of his response. Told him flat out he was full of ****. 03-wink

I don't think I was full of shite. Fitbud trolled all of you into responding to him, and not the question.

Like I said, the pig enjoys getting dirty in a wrestling match.

Because there's always something I disagree with.

I really got pulled in because the cast of characters at the time was great. The beliefs were actually really diverse. Hard liberals, hard conservatives, libertarians, an anarchist, moderates, and Robert. Threads were fun.

I still think we have those personalities, it's just that the threads have been polar.

I enjoy interacting with people of all different stripes. It is interesting to me to have civil (okay, sometimes uncivil) discussion about important issues and have a chuckle in every other thread. Like Nomad said, from hard libs to hard cons, it was and is a good place to see the characters and argue for the sake of arguing. I even miss Torchy a lil' bit. He was one of my primary combatants for a lot of my Spin Room time.

Good question. I'm starting to wonder myself why I do. I used to think this was a place where it was possible to have reasonably intelligent discussions of issues among those with varying viewpoints. It's not that, hasn't been in quite some time, maybe it never was.

There was a time when I tried to get along with everyone. Actually tried. Took insults like water off a ducks back. There's an effect in social science experiments where the experiment itself is a variable. It's not the Hawthorne effect but something like it. The interactions in the experiment is a variable in and of itself and it changes the subject itself. I know I've changed. I'm angrier than I've been. I'm mad at strangers on here. I remember the slightest of insults and I harbor ill will, that's not the person who first logged on here. Our politics have become too divisive but that's exactly what the other side wants. They don't want compromise. It's the result of the environment. I'm more liberal now because of my interactions with conservatives.

On the flip side of that. I wonder if my outlook on things would become more conservative if I hung out around extreme liberals. The place changed after Obama was elected. There is a palpable anger within the right now and that element is here.
