Quote:Blazer Boosters Fundraising Update
UAB Athletics Accepting Pledges And Ticket Deposits For Public Kick Off Of UAB Athletics Campaign

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The football, rifle and bowling teams are returning to UAB, and Blazer fans are encouraged to make their financial commitment toward the newly-reinstated athletic teams.

Blazer Boosters members who have already completed a pledge specific to the UAB football, bowling, and rifle programs will be receiving their signed and executed pledge agreements this week. In addition, individual pledge reminders will be sent through UAB Gift Records starting at the end of June.

Donors who have already pledged will be sent pledge reminders that correlate to the date indicated on their fully executed pledge agreement. For donors who did not indicate an initial payment date, a pledge reminder will be mailed by June 30, 2015. Because the decision has been made to reinstate football, rifle and bowling, donors are encouraged to make their first payment prior to Sept. 1, 2015.

Hatton Smith, Emeritus CEO of Royal Cup Coffee and Tea, has partnered with Blazer Boosters to assemble a UAB Athletics Campaign Committee comprised of community leaders. Smith will serve as the committee’s chair to raise additional funds, particularly to support UAB Athletic facilities. The goal is to publicly announce the complete UAB Athletics Campaign Committee by Aug. 1, 2015, and to begin the public phase of the UAB Athletics campaign shortly thereafter.

In addition to actively seeking contributions, the UAB Athletic Department is currently accepting football season ticket deposits for Blazer Football. A non-refundable deposit of $25 per ticket will be held until the start of football. When the official season is announced and the details finalized, fans will be invoiced for the balance. Blazer supporters who previously placed deposits through the UAB Football Foundation do not need to re-enroll and will be credited through UAB Athletics based on the requested number of seats. A confirmation email will be sent by the UAB Athletics Ticket Office confirming your order by July 15, 2015.

"Competitive collegiate football in Birmingham is desired, and we must continue to demonstrate that the outpouring of support for UAB Athletics is here to stay," said UAB Associate Athletic Director for Development Brad Hardekopf.

"We encourage members of this community to maintain their enthusiasm and invest the financial support necessary to build athletic programs that consistently generate proud moments for both UAB and the city of Birmingham," said Smith, chair of the UAB Athletics Campaign Committee.

Blazer Boosters will be sending updates on a monthly basis to provide fundraising progress during the UAB Athletics campaign. To make a pledge specific to the Football, Bowling & Rifle Support Fund, please call Blazer Boosters at (205) 996-9969 or click here. Learn more about giving opportunities online at blazerboosters.com or direct annual giving questions to Jason Anderson at (205) 996-5994.

If they haven't announced any details by Sept 1, 2015, they had better not expect my check. They have made step 2 out of 834 in the "how to fix this fsck up", and they are not off the hook yet.

Im glad to hear about this new group being organized to focus on Facilities Funding. We need people "who know people" on that committee to facilitate the knocking on doors of folks who really have the fiscal ability to make substantial donations.

Came here to say this mixdup. Sign Bill to a long-term deal and announce the kickoff date or GTFO.

As I figured, now is the time for about half of you to find excuses not to honor your pledges. I see half the posters on this thread are making that intention known already.

I went ahead and paid my first annual donation today. I told Jay the ugly side of me wanted to delay doing so until they renewed Coach Clark's contract, but I couldn't do so. I'm worried some will indeed make excuses, but when I asked Jay how collecting the donations was going he said it has been going well. Fingers crossed that both administration plays their part and everyone who made a pledge follows through with their commitment. Don't prove Dr. Watts right!

The "ugliness" gets down to trust of 1 person so won't change until he's earned that trust again & many cases he never will earn it so it's better for all for him to just go so the true healing can begin

I did not pledge to give them the money until 2016, but thanks for reading my mind over the internet and telling me what I planned to do.

There's little in the way of updates there. My payment isn't scheduled until later in the year per my pledge. Some tangible step forward will prompt me to pay early.

I wrote on my pledge that the first installment of mine will be postmarked on the opening date of the season of the first reinstated sport to play.

Bet your ass I intend to keep it.

All people are saying here is that we'd like to see something tangible on the administration's end that they are indeed working hard toward what they said they'd do.

I trust a helluva lot of folks on this board to keep up their end more than I trust Watts to keep up his.

My agreement was with UAB to support FBS football for the next 5 years beginning 1-1-16. If they show progress between now and then that support will start earlier. If not it'll be post marked 12-31-15 and no earlier. I'm sure I'm pretty much like everyone else. They've been hard nosed through this entire thing and I can play in kind. That doesn't mean I go back on my word

Frankly if they do something real and legitimate then my support will likely be increased. More of the same is depressing. It's why were in this situation in the first place.

I don't really know anybody on this board personally, but I would be shocked if anybody didn't honor their pledge on this board. To ask for something tangible to be in the works is not a ridiculous request before donating. As soon as we donate money, where does it go? Is that a reasonable question to ask?

An underlying fear is that Watts and Co will accept money they wouldn't get otherwise, renege on promises, and keep the money while football flounders in the same abyss it was in before...

Didn't Watts state that any facilities were going to have be funded by private donations? How can anything tangible be built without people giving what they promised? Why extend a coaches contract if there is a lack of funding to build the necessary facilities? Looks like the first move has to be by those that promised to fund the facilities. I suggest everyone pay early. Overwhelm the athletic program with more than empty promises.

All they've given us is empty promises. How are we supposed to trust them. Something as simple as we have a plan in place for an indoor practice facility, it will cost approximately x, and we have y raised so far would be sufficient for me. Give me money and you'll see what I do with it doesn't really cut it.

I would also be shocked if anyone here didn't follow through on their pledge.

This is , after all, the same political power group that PROMISED to repay the Trust Fund right away and now says it must wait awhile. A while back they PROMISED to repay the SETF for millions they "borrowed" but never repaid. They PROMISED to repeal that infamous 62% pay raise when elected but they still collect it. The list of PROMISES is too long to ignore and then act as though "good faith" will be rewarded by their actions some day in the future.

If you think the UA System leadership is not a political power group, just see how effectively the state legislature acts to curb their power.
