Any word on this vote? Was suppose to be today. I would think it would pass. Makes the bowl look a little shaky though.

bham is broke. better make them pay in cash.

So they have this on top of voting to send $$ to UAB to pay for their football team? It may come down now to which one would be better for investment. My guess is the bowl vs sending $$$ to UAB football team.

Plus they owe 4.5 million for regions field overruns. Bham is a clusterfrick. Tried to tell yall

Better get the money in cash

The BHam Bowl is toast. It's a matter of time and we've all seen it coming...and no, that doesn't mean that the AAC/SEC tie in will "transfer" to another bowl game. It means the exact opposite. One less P5 opponent for us. BTW, the newly proposed bowl game in Austin will not be an option for the AAC. They've been going out of their way saying who they want....and who they don't. Coog fans on here who read the local papers know what I'm talking about....

Yes. Austin wants P5 vs P5. Thats alot like saying that ECU wants in the SEC. As the Rolling Stones famously sang---you dont always get what you want.

The Austin Bowl is a brand new bowl that has looked at playing at DKR, the UT Track stadium, and a minor league baeball stadium outside of Austin. They are coming on the scene after ever P5 has already picked the best bowls and tied thier teams to them. I'm afraid the Austin Bowl will have to make do with what's left. The PAC-12 number 8 is still available. Beyond that--it's G5 ties (and even that's limited). That said, a Pac12 #8 vs AAC would be the best outcome possible for the AAC.

yes it would coog....but they've been a little unrealistic in what they think they can get here. I think their going to wait until next cycle but if not AAC vs Big 12's last pick would be ideal. (PAC #8 is worthless)--the fans won't come. I'm sure you've been to PAC bowl games. the sun bowl vs a good Big 10/Big 12/Notre Dame opponent doesn't draw PAC fans and its a decent pay out with a good bowl pageantry and history. Alamo bowl with PAC #2 has been a flop some years as far as PAC fans too... Austin knows it. Houston would bring fans. Any of the big 12 texhoma 6 would bring fans....ECU would do well there at least 1 year and Navy would be good every any time they got picked. AF, BYU and Army too..dont see any other AAC or MWC or Indy still left bringing the fans except maybe Boise who has good traveling fans...maybe new Mexico (proximity) and maybe Cincinnati, (winter in Austin; break from Ohio lol) CUSA: UTSA, Arky St, Texas St and Louisiana Lafayette would bring fans. maybe UTEP...i doubt Rice, SMU or Tulane brings anyone to the bowl. MHO. Cheers!

Believe it or not, those local papers are available online for people all over the world to read.

And other articles outside Texas have said the same thing: The Austin Bowl is looking for a P5-P5 matchup. Good luck to them.

And regardless, the B'Ham Bowl is going nowhere, b/c the SEC will stick with it in their home town. You Texas guys probably missed the articles on the subject.
Well, i guess I did. What happened?

All one needs to do is go to the Birmingham City Council site and read the minutes which is what I did yesterday. The answer has been there for nearly a day. Since I believe in teaching one to fish, I will let one of the AAC brethren post the answer and link. 07-coffee3

I decided to take the bait and fish for myself. This is from the meeting highlights. So it appears to have been approved. So Birmingham bowl lives on....

7. A Resolution approving the agreement with ESPN Regional Television, Inc. (ERT), Birmingham, to host the post-season football Birmingham Bowl Game between the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and the American Athletic Conference at Legion Field for a term of six (6) years (2014-2019); commencing with the 2014 college football season and ending with the 2019 college football season, wherein the City shall pay ERT the sum of $2,025,000.00, said sum to be paid as follows: FY2015-$300,000.00, FY2016-$325,000.00, FY2017-$325,000.00, FY2018-$350,000.00, FY2019-$350,000.00, and FY2020-$375,000.00, subject to the availability of funds and authorizing the Mayor to execute the agreement on behalf of the City.

Yes, the Pac-12 #8 wont travel many fans---but it would make it a more attractive game for the locals. There are over 2 million folks in the Austin-San Antonio area. A P5 team would make a nice opponent and would attract some walk-ups. There are 5 AAC schools within driving distance. Its a 30-40K type of bowl. I'd hold all the events in Austin and play the game 20 minutes away in San Marcos. Texas State has a very nice 30K seat facility. Its no further than Arlington is from Dallas.

I have seen Tulane bring decent crowds to the Liberty Bowl on two separate occasions (80's and 90's). Austin is about the same distance if I am not mistaken. .

I stand corrected then. I'll never forget the 98 Tulane squad led by Bowden. Those guys were awesome that year and smashed a pretty good BYU team in the liberty bowl. Great year for Tulane, it was also the 1st "BCS" year officially. Tulane got hosed out of playing in a BCS bowl...
