That's one way to create some publicity over naming an interim AD.

I don't think anyone thought he was going anywhere after UCF. Except to Del Boca Vista.

I love this. I hope after his coaching career is over he is able to step in as our full time AD.

When I saw the tweet, I did a double take that it was from the Orlando Sentinal and not like the mock GOL twitter account

I think UCF made a good move. O'Leary is one of the big names of our conference. He knows the support that's needed to compete on the highest level, and he has the name to back his efforts.

if he becomes the full AD, comes wth some pluses and negatives..

1 it keeps oleary around long term, and his brand of football will survive and he will oversee coaches like Alvarez..alot of negatives like an inexperienced AD but it worked for Wisconsin

but i think its obvious that next season will be oleary's last, and the people in the know are aware of this and are trying to figure out if they can keep his success around

but its kinda wierd that he'll be coaching and ADing at the same time

I love O'Leary as the AD idea. I think O'Leary has put our football program in great position and has a succession plan. Maybe he is planning to promote from within to find our next head coach if he moves to AD (OC Brent Key has been rumored the next man up for years). I like the idea of Key as a head coach with O'Leary watching over him as the AD. Key is an O'Leary disciple and will keep the program heading in the right direction and we won't miss a beat. I hope O'Leary is our long term AD and it is as successful as Alvarez at Wisconsin.

AD's staffs are huge...and they handle 99% of the day-to-day stuff AD's need done.

GOL probably has just 1 topic/subject on his INTERIM AD plate (i.e. hint: probably has nothing to do with new practice gear for men's soccer) while he can maintain 95% of his focus on the 2015 UCF Football Season.

What many probably don't know is that GOL is a very good administrator...so shuffling around some papers on a desk or prioritizing and maybe more important, DELEGATING responsibilities to others will seem old hat to him.

Don't think this would mean that GOL would like to be a full-time AD for years...believe he (and UCF PResident Dr Hitt) view this time to be one of the most important times in UCF Athletic History...so even if for 4-6 months, its best to have someone known/respected in the UCF AD Interim Chair...vs an unknown to most of those outside the program.

For better or for worse O'Leary is the face of UCF football. I support this move, at least in the interim..

He's a very logical choice and recognizable name in athletic offices throughout the NCAA. When he calls another AD, they won't ask "Who?" like they might with another interim.

It won't be for the interim, GOL is so ingrained in the UCF Athletics fabric that he will be there until he passes.

Yeah because Wisconsin has been a model for football coaching consistency.
