The original Astrodome scoreboard (1969) is still better than the Legion Field scoreboard (2015).

The original Astrodome scoreboard (1969) is still better than the Legion Field scoreboard (2015).

Fun trivia
Its official name is Harris County Stadium but it was nicknamed the Astrodome because of Houston's connection with the Apollo Program** ("Houston, We have a problem")
It was originally sodded with real living grass but when the top was darkened to allow daytime baseball, a synthetic turf had to be developed by Three M which became known as AstroTurf, the original artificial grass.
The original name for Houston's MLB team there was the "Colt 45s" but was changed to the Astros since they played in the AstroDome.
The gondola suspended from the apex of the dome was hit for the first time by a punt by Ray Guy (at least that's the way I remember it)

** When Werner von Braun threatened to move the Space Center to Houston, UA set up UAH and, while they were at it, also set up UAB in 1969.
