Pete Rose
Well sounds like they have proof now he bet while he was a player. Pretty much takes any chance of him getting reinstated out of the equation.

RE: Pete Rose
It was proven long ago. But what was never proven was Pete's gambling having an effect on the outcome of the game. He always gave 100%.

RE: Pete Rose
Didn't he always bet on his team to win? Isn't that essentially what you want all players to be doing in effort? IMHO, Rose should've been let back in way before McGwire and those creeps. He may be kinda a douche in personality, but to me he was Charlie Hustle because he gave it all every game to win.

Yes. He always bet on his team to win. But the details of his gambling have always been ignored, since they had the key word GAMBLING to crucify him with.

And that's exactly what is so ridiculous about this whole thing. The powers that be have most likely universally participated in various forms of wagering themselves, whether office pools, friendly neighborhood poker games, etc... yet they ignore the big issues like barring the Steriods guys (Bonds, Clemens, Palmiero, McGwire, etc...) from even Hall voting...and they crucify Rose for nothing.

The thing is that his gambling habits could give indications as well as the fact he was in deep for some serious coin to the mob. If Rose does lay a bet on one of his pitchers, is that a tell that he doesn't think he's going to win? It's a murky issue.
But Rose not being in the HOF is something I've felt was just. I put him in the same category as Shoeless Joe Jackson.

It doesn't much matter either way now. MLB is a dying sport in the USA. If it wasn't for Central America and Japan, MLB would have died a couple of decades ago.
Frankly, if MLB doesn't want their all-time hits leader in their HoF, it deserves to die.
