RE: Football: Effect of UAB football reinstatement
So far UAB has a team - on paper, a lot of new contributions so far on paper, facilities planned - on paper (blueprints maybe), a coaching staff coming soon, but right now only on paper, and hopefully soon some new players who will sign on paper. The speed at which the "Paper program" can turn into real results is what we are all eagerly waiting to see.

RE: Football: Effect of UAB football reinstatement
"After originally voting to disband the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers’ football program at the end of last season, the Board of Trustees for the state university system voted earlier this month to reinstate football in 2016."
Good journalism seems to be a thing of the past. First paragraph and you can already see this guy hasn't done much research. Setting rumors about trustee pressure aside, the reporter implies there was an official vote by the BOT. Incorrect statements hurt the credibility of the cause even when accurarate accounts are documented.

RE: Football: Effect of UAB football reinstatement
"The Owls have had a history with the Blazers since they first started playing Football Bowl Subdivision football in 2004. Both programs eventually found their way into Conference USA at separate times."
Incorrect again, as you all know, UAB was a founding member.
I'll stop now.

Well, you can't blame them for shutting it down, and then not give them "credit" for bringing it back. Or do you really believe this was "the President's decision and his alone?"
I think it's great journalism. It's the truth, whether there was an "official vote by the BOT" or not.

The use of the words "voting" and "voted" was ill-advised, but the overall gist is right, IMHO. Perhaps better to have put it this way: "After causing the Blazers' football program to be disbanded, the BOT has yielded to public pressure and allowed the team to come back" or something like that.

True journalism has become a lost art. Even this guy would agree with this:

RE: Football: Effect of UAB football reinstatement
What the article tells us is that the way the UA BOT operates is so far out of the norm for such bodies across America that an outside writer finds it impossible to accurately comprehend and convey what was actually done. A UA BOT made up of multimillionaires surely can't be thinking so small as to kill a sister school's FB team out of spite for a past personal affront to a Board member's deceased father.
We know that BOT and are therefore do not find it so incredulous. Remember that many North Koreans think their government is "normal" because it is all they have ever known.
