OT- US Open
Thought Fox did a pretty good job with the coverage, but what a joke of a course and more specifically how the USGA set it up.
Like Norman a lot more than I think I thought I would. Thought he was much better than Johnny Miller on the coverage quite frankly.

I agree that the course was garbage. I think I could mow smoother greens in my backyard. I enjoy a challenging course, but Chambers Bay just seems too chaotic. I understand that everyone is playing the same course, but a lot of the good and bad shots were just dumb luck. Also feel bad for DJ -- tough way to lose.

Those greens look like a mini golf course. If I wanted to watch the British Open I would wait till July. Thankfully the U.S. Open is back in Pittsburgh next year.
Joe Buck can go away at any time now.

I didn't love the course, but I did like how they set up the back 9 in the final round. Having 2 drivable par 4s and ending on a par 5 gave guys a chance to be aggressive and make a run to win late instead of the typical just hold on. There were bad scores to be made if you went wayward, but if you were on you could shoot a 29. I wish more U.S. Open's would be like that.

Great to see Speith win the Masters and US Open in same year. Doesn't happen often.
Also, I liked the look of the course and even the play. The US Open had fallen into a rut, with every course looking like Winged Foot or Pinehurst or Congressional. They needed some new blood in the mix and this was a challenging course. Kind of a dystopian Pebble Beach.

I love the west coast time zone for the primetime TV but doubt that course gets it again. I wouldn't object to a permanent Pebble Beach site for the US open but i'm sure they want to rotate it some. They should put a US open at bandon dunes soon though.

thing is you can't compare to CBS, it's more NBC.
Thought Norman was much better than Johnny Miller.

RE: OT- US Open
amazing how some Big East Boards equate the US Open with Big East basketball. Like I said that Fox didn't catch a break that Tiger bombed out 1st round. They're like you are continuing your anti fox narrative. How in the hell is that not saying the truth.
And it's remarkable how folks with the Big East boards act like if you say something bad about Fox, you are totally disrespecting the Big East. What a ******* joke.

I think that the way the course was set up made for great theater, and it accomplished that. However, I'm not sure that's what the US Open is supposed to be all about. For years the USGA said that the difficulty of their course setups was not to embarrass the best players, but to identify them. I'm not sure the setup of this course accomplished that.

RE: OT- US Open
just saw the ratings:
4th rd got 4.2 rating and 6.7 million viewers average. Up 40/46 percent from 2014 on the east coast(so not in prime time). BUT- down 30% from 2012, the last time on the west coast when got 6.0 rating and 9.6 million viewers.
for the tourney averaged 3.5 million viewers all 4 rounds. Up 40% from last year. But down 27% from 2012.
And for those that don't think there's a Tiger factor. The first round jumped to a 13 year high in viewership. Obviously this didn't sustain.

I think that it started reaching the point where it was embarrassing the best players not identifying them in the mid to late 00's. I have no use for watching over par win a major. I don't want to see -20 win them either, but I like that there were opportunities to be aggressive out there, and if you executed you could be greatly rewarded or if you screwed up you could lose the tournament like Grace did on 16. That's what makes the Masters the best major to watch. You can see someone blow up like a Greg Norman or you can see a guy go crazy and shoot low on the back 9 to win like Jack or Mickelson.

RE: OT- US Open
it was interesting watching the US Senior Open on Fox this weekend. Fox didn't get a break at all with the regular open being at Chambers Bay. Fox's coverage of the Senior looked so much better- just because of the course.
