Problem is the self defining. Too many have already defined the program in such terms that to them the of course is no other choice. IF you have decided things have been steadily downhill or the like, then of course it is logical to whine more.

If you have looked at what has seemingly really happened, which was better seasons and wins except for one year this immediate past year, then overall you are ok with where we are, not over reacting to this past year or to the very loud yellers.

Let alone that, not that it matters, I have opined constantly that another year like last year or even without significant improvement would likely be too much for a place like Memphis.

I doubt that happens, I would suspect our team is indeed much improved, as much as that will hurt so many.

The better question is, when will so many stop whining or acting as though anyone who does not whine must believe we have reached a ceiling, instead of being on a relatively steady uptick, ONE SEASON notwithstanding.

For some reason, I actually thought I would get an answer. Oh, well.

The program was a Pinto. This would probably be surprising news to Larry Finch, Keith Lee, Gene Bartow, Larry Kenon, Penny Hardaway, Elliot Perry...

The program was a caddy. This is probably surprising news to our fans who saw our returning front line of Pierre Niles take the court to begin the season.

Here comes the gibberish about how Pastner whiffed on Tyreke, Demarcus Cousins, John Wall, Nolan Dennis, and Darnell Dodson. Poor thing with a bigger banner in 3...2...1...

A 'program' encompasses much more than a 'roster'.

Even you know that.

A 'program' that has been playing basketball since 1921 encompasses more than a 4 year run by one man.

Run rabbit run.

One that was responsive to the question was what I hoped for. I was curious what would be the poster's criteria for firing a coach--a losing season? two losing seasons? failure to make the tourney? All I know about this poster's criteria is that they have not been met.

It was hardly an inflammatory question.

Mimi didn’t give you a straight answer because he’s probably never given it a thought. Since he has made it clear he is satisfied with the performance of Pastner, he thinks everyone should be.

This is just another case of a fan more concerned with the wellbeing of the coach instead of the wellbeing of the program.

It's tough to be responsive to an overly broad question like, "...what would be the poster's criteria for firing a coach?" Any reasonable answer requires more information than what is provided by the question.

I think what you are really asking is, "What will it take for you to finally admit you are wrong about Coach Pastner?" or even, "How many losses next season would cause you to join the Josh Pastner Haters Club?" or possibly, "How bad will things have to get before I can say, 'I told you so!'"

It is an inappropriate question, both the question as well as the turning to a fan and thinking you can demand an answer.

However, since I see there are several sharing high fives on this one...I have answered this question, both organically, as well as in your silly little hoop jump. Take a minute, read what I wrote about what would be unacceptable, then maybe, just maybe, you can recognize you got that required answer as to what to this fan would be results sub par for our school...and STFU.

It's an easy answer - win big or walk.

The bar has been raised at Memphis.

No more of this nickel and dime little league coaching/results.

Mimi would probably define "big" as winning 80% of the games against non-ranked opponents despite losing 80% of the games against ranked opponents. Maybe win a game in the tournament if you draw a non-ranked opponent. Get destroyed by a Top 20 team in the next round.

It's an easy answer - win big or walk.

The bar has been raised at Memphis.

No more of this nickel and dime little league coaching/results.

everything will be fine......the only thing that Cal will have to fend off this year is all of the people expecting a Final Four run........you and I and reasonable minded posters are well aware that anything can happen in the NCAA's and that our talent, while pretty good, still does not place us among the nation's best quite yet........I think Cal only gets criticized roundly if he fails to get to the NCAA's........as far as I am concerned that is his measuring stick......I think last year was an aberration and that the program was progressing well until that roadblock......
