Look for him to get a late offer or take a walk on position with VT. He's grown up with Rayshard Ashby and would bet they stick together. Could be wrong but I think after his senior season he'll be a hokie.

From his video he looks like he would be a great pick up for the Monarchs if we can get him. Let's hope that "warm" turns into a commit.

Fourth commitment in from L.C. Bird, Shedrick McCall, 6' 1" RB. Adds nice size to the backfield.

Here's the video. McCall looks like he will be a great H-back and, at 240 pounds, he's that big running back for down close to the goal line that some on here have pleaded for over the years.

Welcome to the Monarchs, Mr. McCall!

I've been waiting for my Skyhawks to start getting offers. 3peat state Champs from 2012-2014 and always on a tear. 73-6 record since 2009. Shedrick is a workhorse and is set to take most of the snaps this year. Look for big numbers as Bird is a smash mouth run it down your throat program.

Awesome news! If those other 2 join the club our quality over quantity would put us in the top 3 of the league. Let's hope they stick till signing!

To be crystal clear- I am not being negative only asking a question for the rest of you.

What is more meaningful, the number of "stars" a recruit has, or what other offers he has in hand. In this case:

"The 6-foot 4-inch, 305-pounder chose Old Dominion over Charleston Southern, Georgia State, Mercer and others."

Only asking.....

I always look at who has offered. Its an inexact science, but usually the most accurate.

It is such an inexact science, I really don't put too much thought into it. Stars will typically tell you how talented a guy is, but what if that kid peaked early vs. a kid that is still growing? There are so many factors that come into play. Coaching, system, surrounding players, high school coaching, etc.

In general, guys with higher rating do better than guys with lower ratings, but they also typically have access to better coaching.

the "stars" also are how conferences rate their recruiting classes.

I think at this time of year especially it is hard to say with certainty. You have to remember that these guys have yet to play their senior season of high school. A low three-star could turn into mid-to-high three star. On the other hand, his stock could in fact drop, based on his performance this fall. Given that, I am sure there are some schools who prefer to wait on some of these types of prospects. If they have a strong senior season, more offers will be forthcoming, even though they may have committed previously, with offers ranging from other G-5 to P-5 schools for some.

I agree with odufansam that, in a general sense, the number and quality of the offers in hand are a strong indicator of talent. I just think that this early in the recruiting process it is too early to judge a recruit based on that factor. In the case in point, I looked at his film and believe the three star rating is accurate. It will be interesting to revisit his offers in December/January. I suspect we may have trouble holding on to him.

I believe, at least in my mind that who has offered has a tendency to speak more accurately about the recruits potential. However there are many players because of who has offered, or should I say the lack of FBS offers that my be overlooked as well. It is a little of a double edge sword but can work to our advantage. Big Defense players and offensive linemen are hard to get commitments from because they are so often picked up by the P5 schools as a backup or they will be snagged at the end of the recruiting cycle. I'm not sure of the true interest Duke or VA may have had for this young man, but I thing he will be a great asset for us and we will always need guys with his size on the line and for offensive tackles.

Welcome to Monarch Nation Cameron Muller.

RE: 2017 Old Dominion Football Recruiting Den
Possibly of as much interest to me is who has looked at him, but not offered. I think P-5's tend to wait a while on offering 2-3 star players to see who commits to them early. Obviously if they get their needs met at a position, they may not offer a kid they were looking at. If something falls thru for them, they know they can offer anytime up to signing day and possibly flip a kid who has already committed to us. At this point in time the lack of offers only means he's not a blue chipper. He'll get some more offers I'm sure, even though he has verbaled
