Why doesn't Cuse play hockey? Seems like a no brainer.

Agreed. Syracuse has 8 men's and 12 women's teams. Basically, five women's teams are needed to cover the number of scholarships required by football.

If Syracuse added hockey, it would absolutely have to add two more women's sports to match 18 hockey scholarships. That's 36 incremental schollies at $50k a piece = $1.8 million, plus coaching, facilities and travel costs for three new teams.

Alternatively, SU could drop soccer and add only one women's team. The latter might make sense if there was signficant demand for a hockey team. I'm not really sure there is. Plus, we have an excellent conference home for soccer in the ACC.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway: why wouldn't women's hockey balance men's? That's a 1-for-1... no?

Women's hockey is already one of those 12 sports.

You are assuming that Syracuse was in compliance with title IX prior to dropping men's and women's swimming and diving. Syracuse was not, and that's why only women's hockey was added.

RE: Cuse's New AD Looks To Be a Home Run
Syracuse without hockey is like Florida State without baseball. It wouldn't be the end of the world, but it just doesn't make any sense.

I think a hockey team would almost pay for itself. The problem is that it would also have to cover the cost of another women's team.

New AD...new hope...we'll see. The ACC money has to help.

I would favor using any additional ACC money to improve the football team.

The Boise St AD really wanted out of Boise. He applied for every AD opening, from Houston to West Virginia to Pitt. Missouri too I imagine.

I know people who know people who know him. They say he's good.
