This is a comprehensive beatdown of a hit-piece. A fascinating look at what an almighty s***show is playing out in Austin.

This is interesting. Is the PAC 12's Larry Scott being the Puppet Master behind Texas to make sure the Big 12 will fail? Could be why most of the Big 12 are upset that nothing is being done to remedy for expansion including eastern bridge to West Virginia. Now, it looks like people that are coaches, students and athletes are not happy. I bet you Charlie Strong will walk out that door and find a better coaching job. Shaka was not too smart at all for accepting the coaching job at Texas right now.

There's a sportswriter in Oregon, John Canzano, who developed an unflattering opinion of Patterson when Patterson ran the Portland Trail Blazers. He's written several columns about Patterson:

Punching out was a long time coming

Steve Patterson and Texas... theater worth watching again

Shaka Smart has no idea what he's getting into at Texas

That time when the Trail Blazers president registered JohnCanzano.com

This could explain why with the women's tennis program.

http://www.sbnation.com/college-football...a-comments

He does not care about the other sports at Texas except for the money makers like football and basketball. This could actually get Texas into trouble with the Title 9. If he starts cutting or dropping the women sports? Texas is cooked.

Rick Barnes wanted to stay at Texas.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketba...orns-coach

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nca.../27523935/

http://www.firestevepatterson.com/

If it continues? Steve Patterson could get canned.

I'll say it until I breathe no more...the day someone goes after these places for what they do on the public dime without putting anything back in...

If you hate it so much, give your money to those who want to do something really constructive and positive with it. Why people think the schools "need" it...probably says a lot about how good an education really does a person in this country...

Deloss Dodds wanted to head East....Patterson seems to hate it:

From the link:

Quote:* UT’s perennial power women’s volleyball team - in the Final Four six of the last seven years and national champs in 2012 - had its charter to West Virginia cut for next season, sources said.
Morgantown is UT’s most difficult road trip from a time and logistics standpoint. The team will fly commercial, which can add as many as five hours to the trip because the team flies to Pittsburgh and then buses more than an hour to Morgantown.

Bottom line is this......Texas is heading to the PAC. That is why Patterson was brought in. China is more important then Tex A&M. No way does Texas join ACC as an Indy. Big 12 is toast, but not because of ESPN.

He's making all the same mistakes Dave Brandon made at Michigan. If he's not careful, he'll be following Brandon to the unemployment line. Of course, if the Longhorns start playing like champions again on the football field, no one will care.

I honestly do not understand how anyone can read that article and think it leads to the position that Texas is going PAC. They hired Patterson because of his Pro Sports history. They wanted him to bring his knowledge from that sphere into the college sports sphere. Just look where college sports is going. The problem isn't between Patterson and his contemporaries and bosses. It's with boosters that want to be gladhanded. There is no such thing in Pro Sports. He was known for the same thing at ASU, him leaving was a good thing for ASU but his time at ASU was a positive for ASU.

If Texas was PAC bound, then they already should have been in the PAC. If you think one single man, Deloss Dodds single handedly kept Texas out of the PAC then you put give far too much credit to how much power any one single man can have at Texas.

If you proscribe to the theory that college sports is turning (or has turned) into a business, then hiring Patterson made sense. He understands the business of sports. If however you feel that college sports is more than just about money, well, you're gonna have a problem with Patterson.

Regardless of your position, I find it amusing that the pinnacle of the P5 money hoarding machine is bitchin' about funds and pinchin' pennies here and there, while the fan base which feels it is entitled to anything it wants based upon a history of self-indulgence, now feels neglected. Screw'em!!! Go live with your hypocrisy.

Even in business, when you treat your colleagues and the people you do business with like shtt, that's a liability, not an asset.

I'm not convinced Texas is moving, east or west.

Patterson may need to adjust to the Texas culture. Texas may also need to adjust to Patterson.

Texas and ND, arguably the two biggest and most valuable names in college sports, are perennial underachievers. They do well, but most people expect more out of them than what they actually do.

I'm almost certain that the ACC would offer Texas a ND-like deal if Texas asked for it, and the ACC has already proven a willingness to make special accommodations. And, if Texas left the Big XII, the conference would fall apart, severely hurting every school left in it (i.e. every school not named "OU"). As such, Texas has a crazy amount of power in the conference and can bend it any way that they want. They aren't leaving. They might start making the conference a living heck for everyone else come contract renegotiation time, but they aren't leaving.

People have been complaining about Patterson almost since the beginning. Patterson needs to get to know himself. He doesn't have all the skills needed for the job and doesn't seem to have a schmoozer to do that part of the job for him. Mack Brown played that role for years. Charlie Strong doesn't like that role and isn't really temperamentally suited for it. Patterson isn't good at it.

Oh, and before someone else posts it, former Texas QB Chris Simms says he got a number of hundred $ handshakes while at UT in the early 00s.

No worries. SMU paid the price for all of college footballs' sins so other programs could live.
