Sales of alcohol bring in well over half a million annually for WVU. Texas could nearly double that figure easily.
sometimes it feels like I spend that much myself
If only Memphis sold beer at the stadium. You'd be funding the team's new uniforms every season. 04-cheers

Yeah, because the drunks would be stealing the old ones!

But on a serious, and realignment related aspect of this thread, if Texas starts selling wine and beer at their games it means the SEC would never ask them to be members. The SEC has a moratorium against alcohol sales of any kind at its venues. Now Texas, or W.V.U. for that matter could abandon said sales and get in, but not with alcohol sales. It's odd and quirky, but the SEC is dominated by Southern Baptists, so the rule persists.

No they wouldn't. The players would get half tanked and toss 'em to the fans, like Mean Joe Greene in that old Coke commercial.

Or maybe its dominated by the people who sell alcohol around the stadium and the concealable flask industry!

I think the SEC ban has a whole lot more to do with crowd control than religion.

Are you kidding me? In the South the only people who congregate are the religious. They just happen to be football fans, and as Baptists they need brown paper bags and flasks to conceal their dissipation. Hence the combination of factors that come together: zealous opposition to the public sale of spirits (where one might be seen purchasing said booze), the tailgate with red plastic cups to hide the beverages contained, and then the need to control a drunken crowd who is in denial. Voila Bullet therein lies the truth! It is also the provocation for the old joke about what's the difference between Baptists, Methodists, and Episcopalians in the South? Methodists will speak to you in the liquor store, and Episcopalians will offer you a drink.

I believe God is real, and unimpressed with the hypocrisy of the pseudo religion (religiosity) that defines many parts of the dualism of our culture. We post numerous murders per minute on TV, and then rail against all forms of violence. We still smoke, but rail against those whose insurance costs are run up because of it. We feature a plethora of high fat restaurants and make people pay a premium for being overweight. We value the ultra thin but rail against bulimia and anorexia. We push alcohol as a way of having a good time and then rail against drunk driving. We sell everything with sex and then pretend to be chased. We indulge in other words in all kinds of shocking and aberrant behavior and go all PC about everything around us. This whole concept is more than about mere crowd control. It is yet another symptom of an arrogant and self righteous campaign about what we fear most in ourselves. Therefore we won't sell it at the games, but will permit half gallons of liquor to be dispensed at tailgate parties, .....please???

Well with TV timeouts and passing offenses, it has to hold them for 4 hours now.04-cheers
