[OT] Pat Murphy - Padres Coach
Former ASU coach, Pat Murphy, will manage the Padres for the rest of the season.

Remember feisty Pat?

Remember feisty Pat?

Will he have his players stage a fake fight?

RE: [OT] Pat Murphy - Padres Coach
He was such a kid back then. Now he's grown up.

Brett Wallace, one of the ASU fake fighters is still with him:

Quote:Yet here he is, one of the exclusive 30 [MLB managers], reminding Wallace about a recent collision between his Tahoe and Wallace's Range Rover in the parking lot at Southwest University Park, home of the El Paso Chihuahuas. "Just think what I could have done with that," to prank Wallace before informing him he had been called up, Murphy said.

Wallace knows this territory all too well. Think about that fake fight before the 2008 super regional finale against Fresno State that drew an admonishment from the NCAA. Not every Murphy ploy is a good one, but presumably he's learning to minimize those that go sideways.

"He's very intellectual," Wallace said. "He taught me a lot of stuff that make me the player I feel like I am in the game and getting a chance to play for him again this year already (in El Paso) has really helped me get back to some of the basics. I know the guys are going to like him and like playing for him."
