Figured I'd share this here for the other BMB alums:

WMU Alumni Pep Band and Bronco Marching Band Alumni: A fundraising campaign is underway to raise money for the upcoming BMB season. If your experience in the BMB was meaningful to you and you'd like to make sure it continues for the next generation, consider making a donation. Budget cuts have made it more and more difficult to provide the rich experience and excellence we all expect and love about the BMB. It is no longer possible to provide this with our current funding level...we need your help!

Good idea. I make a small contribution to BMB every year myself, as I was a member for one year. Great experience.

I'm sure Waldo Stadium DJ (what's his name?) will be willing to contribute.

It would be a sad day for the BMB the fans and community supporters if there is money for the DJ at the expense of the Marching Broncos! Hope that's not happening.

NOTHING has been taken from BMB and given to the DJ, other than playing time at the games.

Budget cuts are taking place all over the campus, not just BMB.

The money for DJ is coming from somewhere.

BF1, why the hostility? It seems to me that Major has a point and a good question. Where do funds for the DJ come from - whose budget? I'm guessing football budget.

Way back in the stone age when I was in the BMB, our funds came from the football budget (or the athletic department's, can't remember exactly).

BMB budget is from the Music school, and the DJ is funded through football and the athletic department. They are separate and one has no connection to the other. How do I know that the BMB budget is set by the Department of Music. I was involved in a fund raising effort to send the BMB when the Music Department would not fund the trip.

If you have an issue with the BMB funding then you have to discuss it with the Music Department, but I can assure you that the department programs have a higher priority in the eyes of the Dean. I applaud the directors efforts to raise money to preserve the fine BMB that WMU has.

I thought your band had KVCC students in it, who funds them?

The band has always done a very good job fundraising. Other departments in the school could learn a thing or two from them IMO.

It just seems, don't know if contradictory is right word, that University pays for a DJ at home games, for the BMB to go to the Spud Bowl, and now they have to raise money just to maintain program.

BMB does fundraising every year to maintain the high quality of the program (I know because I get phone calls and mailings). Nothing new.

It does, they act as a dual-enrollee like tons of other students and pay for their credits in the BMB at WMU prices. Heck, there are alumni that have come back and taken 1 credit to play in the BMB again before. It's just a class as far as any of that is concerned.
