My friends and I were confronted by angry UA fan as we tried to leave. We did our best to ignore the drunks... But they kept yapping off and even challenged us to settle it outside.

We were black (still is, btw) so maybe they loved us a little more.

Was it about that bad when LSU got knocked off or were they typically more rational?

I have some pretty heinous stories from LSU-UAB and that's BEFORE the game started.

The Coleman Coliseum workers turned the lights off in the arena before the broadcast crew could finish the telecast. You can't make this stuff up.

I heard this story from 3 different people at three different times. Once on the trip to Louisville this year, the others during my time at UAB.

I have the entire broadcast on VHS. Matt Coulter & Doug Layton were the commentators. You can hear UAB fans still celebrating in the arena as they give the ir final commentary and the lights lights are cut off.

I was at the LSU game and dont recall any heinous experiences. What I do recall is that after the game, as we were walking to our car,,, the LSU fans were virtually cachectic,, in total shock, numb, without affect... I loved ever minute of that long walk through their midst.

The 2000 UAB @ LSU game was their Homecoming game and the team voted to wear their purple jerseys which is rare. Another thing that added luster was that after that, the LSU team the next Saturday defeated UTK, never lost another OOC home game since and shortly after that won a BCS NC, Had UAB been able to build on that victory, we would have had something very special by now.

We did build on that win. We were bowl eligible the following year and came within 6 points of beating two ranked teams the year after. Then came the best era of UAB football with Hackney and White.
