Who would go on your CUSA Mount Rushmore?
I realize that many of you have limited knowledge of all the great players (in all sports) in CUSA history, but if you could put together your Mount Rushmore of CUSA (players, coaches, administrators, whoever), who would go up there?

Here's my CUSA Mount Rushmore.

Jeff Bower - Never had a losing season in CUSA. (we've had some great fb and bb coaches (including Huggins, Briles, O'Leary, Calipari, Pitino, Patterson, etc)
D'Angelo Williams - Greatest RB in CUSA History (and we've had plenty good ones, with C. Johnson, M. Forte, etc)
D. Wade - led Marquette to the Final Four. Future BBall HOFer
Case Keenum - broke most major NCAA passing records

I guess my point is, I still believe the conference needs to do something to mark the 20 year anniversary of CUSA. The conference doesn't get near the credit it deserves for the mark its made in college sports. We have the 6th best tradition among all the conferences. I hope they do something to incorporate some of those great highlights from the past.

They all have to be Marshall current players and recruits. It's only right.

Your list might not be on my Mount Rushmore but the candidates would be in the conversation for sure.

Hard not to have from ECU in the convo:

David Garard
Steve Logan
*Giant Killer in CUSA and Won the first two Liberty Bowl Alliance bowls
Dwayne Harris

I could think of a few more that could be in the conversation from others .... Sean King/Tulane and their undefeated year in football? There has to be some Louisville basketball I have missed--possibly some football in there as well.

Kevin Smith deserves to be on there somewhere, maybe. Depends on the competition for top 4. I'd say that would be UCF's contributor. Other honorable mentions would be Bruce Miller, Joe Burnett.... and I think that's it.

Include only individuals or schools that are currently in the conference. Coda cant live or claim recognition for those who preceded this present combo.

I think they would have had to actually play or coached in CUSA to qualify.

Michael Boley, Adalius Thomas, Patrick Surtain, Damian Fletcher, and Derrick Nix from USM to name a few to be considered.

Skip Holtz is the only CUSA Tech guy to consider. He's won 2.5 championships in 7 years (including his time at ECU). But Bower edges him out with 3.5 championships in 13 years. Maybe if he gets another one this year he will get up there.

On that Michelle Beadle C-USA "Who's next?" commercial they include Moss. If we're only doing players who actually played in C-USA, and are current member schools that limits the list quite a bit. Hardly a Mount Rushmore.

This list works just fine! Absolutely no reason to reach back to any player or coach from any school that is no longer in CUSA!

So Dan Marino shouldn't be in NFL HOF because no Super Bowl wins?

I just can't say Keenum belongs on there because of the fact that Houston, which won multiple titles without him, won zero titles with him.

I agree on the other three:

Bower: Success + Longevity
Williams: Was just amazing to watch in college and has had success in the NFL. Single-handedly gave Memphis' program its best run.
Wade: Incredible college and pro careers.

My fourth would be Dave Ragone from Louisville: C-USA Player of the Year in all three starting seasons. Led a team coached by a crazy person to back-to-back C-USA titles. You also can't understate his importance in the wrestling away of power from USM and the rise of the Louisville program.

No love for Gene Bartow, father of UAB athletics, Memphis basketball and CUSA itself?

RE: Who would go on your CUSA Mount Rushmore?
look at the hating usm fans, keenum finished with the highest amount of Heisman votes for any c-usa player and outside of D'Angelo Williams no one was even close..and if he didnt lose the week before voting he'd have gotten WAY more,

he holds almost every single ncaa passing record for career and single season. he was first team on the national all-freshmen team despite only playing about 3/4 the season (c-usa freshmen of the year), c-usa Offensive Player of the Year as a sophmore, C-USA MVP as a junior and a senior aswell as second team all-american as a junior

while passing 5600yds 53tds and just 5ints his senior season alone......
if you want to deduct him for getting upset in his CCGs fine..just noting D'Angelo Williams never won any either, and that CCG's only started in 06, and if we played by the rules of what was done the majority of c-usa, he did have 3 regular season titles

He never won the conference. He was nearly beat to death by Cordarro Law in his championship game appearance, which was an ass-kicking.

Sorry I'm not sorry.

D'Angelo Williams was a freakish talent and a superior athlete. Case Keenum wasn't. Feel free to get butthurt. I'd put Kevin Kolb above Keenum.
