Lunsford best weapon for Flames
The Sports Network says John Lunsford may be the best weapon for the Flames in 2015.

"Liberty's offense returns an All-Big South quarterback (Josh Woodrum), two all- conference running backs (D.J. Abnar and Desmond Rice), and an All-America wide receiver (Darrin Peterson). Yet the team's most valuable player might be the place-kicker."

Lunsford wasn't that good last year. Only 19 of 24 and even didn't hit all his extra points, 43 of 44.

Peterson is in a class by himself if we are talking about weapons and talent.

With the strength and quality of running backs, Peterson as a deep threat and Lunsford's threat to kick a 50+ yard field goal, that is strong on the offensive side. How the defense matures and fills holes from departed players seems to be the question, not on the offensive side.

Lunsford best weapon for Flames
I was reading a preseason NCAA football magazine (don't remember which one, but one of the mainstream regulars) and it said Lunsford was the highest rated NFL prospect in the BSC.

I think that would be easy to determine. And for the record, Lunsford's season last year was phenomenal.

I know it's just one man's opinion, and is a credit to the ability of Lunsford, but what does that say about LU and the BSC if the best NFL prospect is a kicker. Don't get me wrong, I value kickers and think they are vastly underrated on football teams. And Lunsford deserves the accolades he is getting because of his performance.

I don't remember reading where he was the best NFL prospect. I'm betting it was he may be the one with the best kicking potential and appeal. There's got to be QB's, RB's, LB's and more ahead of a kicker. He'd had to have near perfect performance to even have that as discussion.
