You're right and I regret that I wasn't more clear.

The UAB fan hasn't professed to be a fan of Rice that I am aware of. Not that he dislikes Rice or has ever been impolite, but best I know, we aren't special to him.

The other fan's interest in Rice is questionable... as in I'm not convinced how genuine it is.

I don't know half the people on here by name, so many of them may not be Rice graduates... but their posts lead me to believe that they actually are fans. I'm not sure that either of these people fit that description.

Not a knock on them or their opinions as much as a commentary on where their actual interests in the topic might lie.

Bo admits that his support of Rice is primarily because of CUSA, which is how most of us feel about UAB. It's not rude... It's merely factual.

To be honest, it hurts a little to hear that my allegiance is in question. Anyone who has read my posts over the past five years should be able to easily see that I'm a big Rice fan. My dad started taking me to the games when I was 7 and I haven't stopped attending since then. Oh well. I know I'm one of Rice's biggest supporters and the people sitting around me at the games can see that as well. To hell with what you guys think.

If I were you, that's what I would do too.

BoKnows is obviously a troll, and I'm not sure why he hasn't been run from the board. He's not a UAB fan, he's not a CUSA fan, and he revels in the angst of the UAB situation and our current conference situation.

Edit:
Afflicted on the other hand, I rarely agree with, but he/she appears to be a sincere supporter of the Owls.

I've never responded to that UAB poster because I've suspected that he is a troll. I mean, one time he made a comment about Rice and UAB being academic "brethren" or something, and I nearly fell out of my chair.

The UAB poster is either delusional or an impostor. Neither type is welcome here.

As for Afflicted, I do believe that he sincerely supports Rice. I just don't agree with how he supports Rice at times.

Honestly, I can't even read Afflicted's posts, as I find them nearly universally ill-informed or illogical, but I think his support for Rice is sincere.

It sucks that you're branded as "ill-informed or illogical" when you don't agree with the nonsense and lack of reality spewing from this board on a daily basis. Aren't you guys supposed to be smart or something?

Case in point on why I question the sincerity of his 'support'.

He rarely speaks about 'us', but instead it is usually about 'you guys'. Since as OO notes, many of our fans and supporters aren't grads, this is precisely what I'm talking about. When he talks about 'us', he's talking about UH.

Now I understand that he supports UH and that is fine... many of 'us' generally support 'them' as well... but because we ARE so different in terms of our missions (as Universities) it shouldn't surprise any of 'us' OR 'them' that we don't value the same things.

I sat next to Afflicted at the last Rice-UH game and he was cheering for Rice so I assume he is a Rice fan.

BoKnows is probably a troll since he does even know all that much about UAB. If he was a UAB fan, he would know more about the situation at UAB. He has never mentioned that UAB was a victim of the University of Alabama system starving down the UAB program by first denying new facilities and then trying to eliminate the program.

If CUSA was expanding, Texas State would be a good addition. However, I think we will not be having to fill an empty spot since UAB will be re-establishing its football program.

As the renovate-rebuilt discussion, it should be noted that it is not prudent to tear down all old football stadiums. Parts of Texas's Memorial Stadium were built in 1924. LSU's stadium was first built around the start of the depression. In fact, the football stadium was built there before the rest of the university moved to that new location.

I don't necessarily question Afflicted's support - although he clearly thinks that we should bow to the great potential of UH - I just think that he's always wrong.

Kind of like that guy from the FedEx commercial who thinks that Steely Dan is one guy and that your company gives you "French benefits" ... he's just always wrong.

You're telling me. I've never been anything but complimentary to Rice and their place in the hierarchy of CUSA.
I see Rice as a signature CUSA program. A cornerstone of the conference. I see no reason why Rice and CUSA can't make this a great home to roost.
It's not like any of our programs are going to be collecting P5 money anytime soon. And, short of that, there is no incentive to move to the MWC or even the AAC.
Bailiff is a very good CUSA coach. There is a reason that the Owls are doing better now than you have in the previous version of CUSA and the WAC. And, lets not forget, we've cut A LOT of fat with underperforming programs like SMU, Tulane, and Tulsa. Replacing them with Louisiana Tech, UNT, and UTSA, was an upgrade. It's a great neighborhood for your President to consort with. I know your basketball coach is happy now that UAB is staying.

I'll just add my voice to those saying I don't question Afflicted's support. Don't agree on numerous issues, but that's true of many of you. Disagreement's kinda the basis of a message board though, isn't it?

On Afflicted, I was surprised when I learned he was a Cougar first. Lots of our posters have ties to UH, often law school, and so a listing of Rice and UH is not that much of a red flag (pun intended). I'm OK with Afflicted.
